Not surprised with either of these going, but it's the next announcement that could be surprising.
Will Moose stay at the back or is someone else coming in? Maybe depends on if we can extend Lenihans loan or not.

I would guess both these guys are at the higher end of the wage scale at BAFC,if JFH wants to bring in quality in Jan these sacrifices have to be made unfortunately.

I don't see how this helps in the Jan window, unless both find new clubs and leave. They have contracts to the end of the season. Even if they both go out on loan I reckon we would still pay the bulk of their wage. However, it is good for the two players to know where they stand, and I am pleased JFH has made his mind up and told them.
Also Adam Mcgurk knows his situation as well. Still it will be interesting to see if our budget does allow for any new arrivals, even if they are loans. Our manager obviously means business, and wants to move us on as soon as possible.
Peacock poses the most interesting question regarding Moose. Can't wait to find out

Anyone kept track of how many loans we have had so far this season. There is a limit isn't there?

I'm not 100% sure but I think you can have as many loan players as you want , but there is a limit as to how many can play in a game which is five .

The loan regulations are very complicated, Premier Leauge have their own rules while all other leagues are the same but different from the Prem. Then there are emergency loans, special loan rules for keepers....

From 2013 - non-Prem leagues
Clubs can have as many loan players as they want but can only field 5 at a time. That limit does not apply to foreign players.

But last season when Watford had 11 loanees and fielded 7 of them (foreign players from Udinese) I think the rules were changed or are in the process of being changed? (edit: can anyone add to this regarding player numbers or rule changes?)

Weale, Matthews, McFadzean, Morris, Lenihan, Blyth

I think both Lee Bell and Ian Sharps have been good servants to our club and we should thank them for what they have given to the cause, however JFH wants to progress things on further and develop a different style of football and unfortunately for them they are surplus to requirements.
That's football and I wish them both well for the remainder of their careers.
Personally I see it as a very positive step and a sign that JFH isn't afraid to make tough and difficult decisions.

Thanks, I do recall there used to be a limit, I think it was 12, however, I wasn't aware there was no longer a limit. I can't agree with that. I understand the loan market is essential and has served us well, but you really do need a limit to ensure young talent gets a chance, or what is there to stop say a Chelsea/Man City loaning a whole team to a league Two team and effectively getting a B team in the league?

Back on topic, I agree. I heard an interview with lee Bell on radio Derby, he was trying to stay positive but he sounded to me to very, very disappointed. He has though thoroughly expunged from his and our memories his poor second loan spell with us. That sounded important to him.

Both he and Sharps have been top players for us. I hope that they both move on to roles they find fulfilling and as they both want to go into coaching, I wish them all the best with that too.

Spot on terraceman, I couldn't have put it better. He should shift McGurk on too...he's had plenty of chance to impress and really hasn't?

Yes, both players served us well at times and in their own ways. I was not a huge fan of either and I thought that they should have been released in the summer. Personally, I think that may have been Gaz's only mistakes but it would have been tough for him to release both captains.

It was pretty clear with Jimmys change in style and tactics that they were not going to be a part of it. He said Lee wants to play still so he'll try and get a permanent transfer or loan. Not sure what Ian's plans are but I think with his leadership he can still help a team stay up or get into the league. And they are both working on their coaching credentials.

I have huge respect for JFH for making what must have been a very tough decision and and difficult conversations with the players.
But that's football and I look forward to new additions and changes and where the journey with Jimmy will end this year. I wish them both the best in their near and long term endeavors.

Didn't they both help whitlow manage the team briefly?

Bell isn't contributing so won't be a loss on the field. Sharps has contributed a lot and could be a loss.

But the manager clearly wants to do things his way and after the start he has made its hard to argue.

Could they even end up going somewhere together as a management team?

That would be a good way to get them both off the payroll at the same time.

That might need to be conference level though.

Both have been great servants to the club and they will both be fondly remembered by the Brewers faithful. They will make excellent additions to another club somewhere I'm sure.

Both players have contributed much more than the overated Jimmy Phillips ever has,yes he has had a serious injury,but on many occasions before the injury,some very below average performances.
I think Ian Sharps can think himself very hard done by,one to have kept even as back up.

I think age played its part in the decision. Both are passionate players who were given the armband so obviously have leadership skills. If they are not part of Jimmys plans going forward than perhaps their skills would be best used if they could hook up somewhere and help out on the pitch as their careers wind down. Looking at teams near to where they live I think they could help Tranmere stay up, or Macclesfield or Kidderminster to get promoted.
