In my 58 years of watching football I have seen a few exceptional goals. They are always marked by a buzz in the crowd that lasts much longer than the teams celebrations. Today I saw one at The Pirelli. Somewhere about the edge of the 'D' Zola took the ball on his chest with his back to the goal and as the ball was falling , swivelled and volleyed it into the net, stunning the opposition. After the usual applause a ripple of conversation swept up and down the pop side marking it out, to my mind, as exceptional. I might have to stop up tonight to watch The Football League Show

I think I said in another thread (I can't remember - it's all I've talked about at home) but I didn't cheer that goal, I laughed out loud. Best thing I've ever seen. It was only when I realised the bloke next to me was clapping that I joined in.
Dunno about the Oxford goalie, but I was stunned.

I've watched relevant parts of The Football League Show and guess what? They showed Zola's goal THREE times; in the match highlights, in the summing up and in with the credits at the end of the show. It must have made the editors sit up and take notice.

But does it beat Taylor's effort against Leicester? Tough choice - I'm on the fence!
