soooo this is the new 1st choice keeper for four months then.....see how he does. have atkins as back up and send dean out on loan. will seem abit pointless if we cant get stuart for more than the four months though

Stuart Tomlinson, or "The Tank" as he's otherwise known . Decent 'keeper whenever I've seen him play . He came here under Cloughy ,on loan from Crewe but only played one game because his cruciate went (I think). Excellent signing that gives out some positive vibes from the club ;D

Good to see Rowett is not afraid to rectify a mistake quickly too, Pesch was always a bit stubborn with issues like this.

Good to see that Rowett has realised his mistake in signing Atkins and has moved to rectify the error.

His previous loan spell ended when Crewe recalled him, that led to us signing Kevin Poole.
All credit to GR for acting quickly to rectify what is clearly a problem. My guess is that Ross will see out his loan til Christmas and Lyness will go out on loan.

Decent keeper if I remember. I think most were disappointed when he was recalled. Then we got King Kev of course.

At last, a proper keeper. I'm starting to feel confident now.

His previous loan spell ended when Crewe recalled him, that led to us signing Kevin Poole. All credit to GR for acting quickly to rectify what is clearly a problem. My guess is that Ross will see out his loan til Christmas and Lyness will go out on loan. In May 2006, Burton Albion put in a request to sign Tomlinson to a season long loan. The move was delayed after Tomlinson picked up a calf injury, before he managed to join Burton in time for a pre-season friendly with Sheffield Wednesday. However Crewe reconsidered the loan deal and so Nigel Clough instead signed veteran Kevin Poole.Clough was still keen to sign Tomlinson, with the saga continuing well into the season, though no deal was made. Tomlinson picked up his first senior clean sheet on 22 August 2006, during a 3–0 win at Grimsby Town's Blundell Park in the League Cup First Round. The Crewe website described a "heroic effort" from Tomlinson in the Football League Trophy tie with Rochdale on 31 October, as he managed to save three of Rochdale's four penalties (the penalty he did not save was a miss). Dario Gradi said: "Stuart is outstanding on penalties because he is positive and doesn't flop over. He went on to play seven League One games, and also made one appearance in the FA Cup. However he did not play in the 2007 end of the season, partly due to a torn groin that kept him out of action for a number of weeks. In the summer there was once again talk of a possible loan move to Burton. He was only used by Steve Holland once throughout the 2007–08 season, playing in a 1–1 draw with Chester City in the Football League Trophy on 4 September; Chester won the game 4–3 on penalties. Not long after this he was on the sidelines with a broken thumb. In February, Tomlinson finally joined Conference club Burton Albion on a one month loan.He played 90 minutes for the "Brewers" in a 3–1 defeat to Histon on 1 March, and was forced to make numerous saves. He played no further part of Burton's season after he sustained an injury to his cruciate ligaments. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stuart_Tomlinson

Phew! I've been going on about this for months. A (more) experienced keeper could sort out quite a few problems at the back - it's a footballing basic.
Fingers crossed. Clean sheet, good start.

It was good to hear Matt Patterson's interview on Radio Derby praising Stuart Tomlinson and what a big lift in confidence it was to the team to have him in goal. A major piece in the jigsaw maybe?
