Jamie Cureton - the injury looked bad at the time...
Strike ace Cureton is set for six weeks out
CHELTENHAM Town striker Jamie Cureton will be out of action for six weeks.
Yesterday's scan results revealed rotator cuff and capsular damage, but no bone lesion in his left shoulder.
Cureton (above) picked up the injury as he scored Cheltenham's first goal of the season against Burton Albion on Saturday, with his debut lasting only 18 minutes.
With it being the 37-year-old's first dislocation, the injury can be treated without surgery, reducing his time on the sidelines. But the former Reading, Norwich City and Colchester United poacher may require an operation on the area in future.
Robins senior sports therapist Ian Weston said: "I wouldn't rule out surgery in future, but hopefully we can strengthen the shoulder joint this time.
"It's a nasty injury, but the fact there is no bone lesion is fortunate."
Cureton had his shoulder reset under general anaesthetic on Saturday evening, when it was confirmed there was no fracture to his collar bone.
Boss Mark Yates is now likely to look for a short-term loan addition, providing cover alongside his other attacking options Terry Gornell, Byron Harrison and Ashley Vincent.
Yates is close to his budget after five permanent signings during the close reason, plus two loan recruits, but chairman Paul Baker has told the Echo that the board will look favourably on a request for extra funds for another striker in Cureton's absence.
Cureton is the second highest goalscorer still active in the English game, behind Kevin Phillips. His strike against Burton was the 248th of his career and the fourth time he has netted on the opening day of a campaign.
