So if he lets a couple of goals in against the hot favourites to win the league, in the opening game. The heat will be on him already. Marvellous... He's been playing well in pre season, much improved, looking more like a man than he did last season IMO. Last season's experience will have helped him greatly too. I can't honestly see what he's done wrong to warrant all this criticism. Then again, it'll be cranked up intensely as soon as he actually does have a below par/average game .

Brewer95 nothing would please me more than Kev Poole getting through to Ross and making a stopper out of him, but I think that is a long way off !!!! But I will come on here and say well done or sh1te, because IMO it should have been 2-0 Albion on saturday. Adam. You seem to have a short memory. Gary got rid of the defenders he thought was to blame for 80 goals against last season. IMO the keeper should have gone for his part in that. It can go 2 ways sadly.... defence fails to protect him or Ross finds a pair of hands in time for the first game. You can't blame Tony James and Ryan this season, and the new defenders seem to have fitted in nicely.

I thought it looked like Ross has already found a pair of hands from what I've seen in these friendlies. But it looks like Atkins is already a write off because of the past. No matter how well he plays, or how much he improves.
It even took a bit of time for Joe Hart to get into it before becoming a Manchester City superstar. Quite possibly could be the same for David De Gea at Manchester United
I dread to think that Atkins baiting and slating will the the in thing over the entire season. Whether he plays bad, or carries on his decent pre season form. It is a tad tedious already, but I guess there's no chance of him being cut a bit of slack.

Something that might help him is confidence, something that he wont get by reading the crap on here should he stupidly choose to do by thinking fans would actually support their team. FFS what exactly do you want KB, how the hell can you blame a keeper for his defence going AWOL from a free kick, no keeper in the bloody world is gonna save a shot from 6 yards when his defence has buggered off, give the lad a break and try supporting instead of critisising all the time hey?? didnt take this new forum long to desend into a moanafon and the season aint even started yet, jeez

Atkins looks like exactly what he is - a young goalkeeper learning his trade at a competitive lower league with the intent of proving himself to be a higher level keeper in the future. He's not a bad keeper at League 2 level and he is getting better.

Some people won't give the same player a second chance whereas some will. IMO he deserves a second chance. He cocked up last season but he now has another chance knowing he has competition with another keeper who is looking for No.1. If Atkins doesn't perform then and only then should Dean get his chance.

I think that last season would have done him the world of good; provided that he can learn from his mistakes of course, but IMO he will be a complete revelation from has last season. As with this season he has another 'keeper of similar age and ability to push him whereas last season he only really had Poole, whom was in his last season and with all due respect age had caught up with him, I can't comment on Wren as I never saw him play.
