‘The rat in my head that won't stop’ - Accrington's Billy Kee living with severe anxiety - www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/42968278I know technically it should be in the ex player thread but thought this was worth highlighting on its own. Billy is one of my favourite all time brewers. Really brave of him to highlight his issues like this. Stay strong Billy.

I also loved Billy when he was here. I agree it is a brave thing to come out about. Credit to him.

A good post Britty. A really good insight into these sort of problems.
Billy Kee was brilliant for us, would loved to have seen him alongside Daryl Clare.

Not hearing any news I had resorted to looking at the Accrington line ups for their games to see if he had made the bench. I had started to get concerned about his welfare.
Whenever I listen to interviews with John Coleman I always think what a wonderfully supportive manager and gentleman he is.
I noticed on the article that it had received 54,944 views (at the time of writing). I couldn't work out if those views were for that one article. If they are, that is a lot of people concerned about his welfare (given that the club only get a couple of thousand through the gates).

Earlier in the summer Billy told a friend of mine he would much rather be a window cleaner than have to deal with pre season training and the pressure he felt being a pro footballer anymore
I didn't post it then as I was hoping he would feel better and change his mind
Talented guy. You would hope someone could help him feel better

You would hope someone could help him feel better I would hope so too, but I don’t think it works like that. John Coleman is a quality guy who will give him as much as he can I am sure. Never thought I’d be saying that a few years back but Billy is in good hands there. Even if he doesn’t keep up with the pro game, I hope he finds contentment somewhere. He’s a lovely bloke is Billy and his mum is lovely too. Peace and love to him and his family.

It's not very often football fans
a) take my breath away and b) make me want to cry tears of loveliness.
My hat is well and truly doffed to Ipswich fans, that is pure class.

That is absolutely fantastic. We had a week of really disgusting Bulgaria and Haringey racism news and now this. A banner like that can be really powerful. It is the fans speaking as one. Imagine if there were fans banners that read 'Racists not welcome in our game'. The authorities and the players with their banners doesn't seem to work.
To illustrate the power of banners, I always look out for Morecambe results and hope that they have won after their 2009 offering at our ground.
I still look out to see if Billy Kee has made it to the substitutes bench.

I hope we can do one when they come to us.
Perhaps the Ipswich fans will send it to us.

I hope we can do one when they come to us. Perhaps the Ipswich fans will send it to us. Great idea that. Get the Ipswich banner surfing the league one and cup games wherever Accrington play this season. Get a few players and managers to sign the back with messages of goodwill. Then raffle it at the end of the seaon with proceeds going to mental health charities. Maybe you should "twitter" that suggestion.

After Ian's idea I contacted the Ipswich Town fan who made it.
He would have loved to send it around the grounds but unfortunately it was destroyed after the game. The Accy stewards letting it in without a fire certificate, which was great of them.
They did say it would be lovely to see Burton Albion fans do the same.
In light of the fact Billy was a hero here and with Marvin having his issues as well, could we rustle up a double sided banner?
I'm as poor as a church mouse but I'd happily chuck £20 into a starting pot if anyone else is up for it?

I see your church mouse poverty and raise you an either poorer church mouse Broomo - but I can confirm I would support the endeavour.

Guess why I suggested we get the one from Ipswich There is a bit of time yet and there are more ways to show a bit of love than a one use plastic banner. But yes, happy to chuck in a ten bob note.

Fair point. Maybe a song and a clap for a minute, it's cheaper, easier to arrange AND better for the environment. The Ipswich fans got me a bit emotional ;-)
