I have just this moment got back from Norfolk where Iwas without internet as I had forgotten to pack my computer charger:- I was away Saturday pm until now.
I have received a message from a member questioning the ease by which other members of the forum can modify a post. I completely agree that this is something which if /as it allowed by the software (?) of the forum is some thing which cannot be allowed. I will look into the settings. Although ! have the ability as Admin but was unaware that it could be done by 'standard' members. What will say is that as it stands AT THE VERY LEAST there should be a note of the edit on the bottom of the page and so other members should be aware of what has been done, but how many of us go back over previous posts..
As ADMIN i will therefore within 24hours..
Alter the rules of the forum to draw attention to the matter and make it an act which a member will be warned about ONLY once before they are either temporarily or permanently banned from the forum.
Can I ask that if anything of this sort happens that people message me. Although I watch the forum many times a day I can, a message as has been done about this will get my immediate attention.

If anyone has modified any of my posts then I hope they used correct grammar and spelling. Failure to do that would annoy me no end.

Norah, it is impossible to edit another members post. Unless you are the admin. If you check the posters (earwig) post in question you will see that his/her original post has not been modified as it can ONLY be modified by him/her or by an admin.
In a public forum, for an admin to attempt to administer what it seems like you are being asked to do would be far too labour intensive. But the key is in the word 'public'. As another member posted if someone is concerned about another member highlighting a word from their post (not changing their post and only in order to make a point) they probably shouldn't be on a public forum.

Norah, I think to clarify things there is an element of confusion here.
Ordinary members cannot modify or edit other users posts. However the issue has arisen through a post being 'quoted' and edited in the 'quoted' version as evidenced on page 5 of the Millwall Match thread where I think it was Swaddy's post was quoted by a certain user and a word added to the quoted version.

Well done Norah you have my complete support . This action will also hopefully eliminate the endless , tedious quoting and copy and pasting that some members thrive on. Thank you for making this forum a better place. Porks

I have adjusted the forum rules and added the following.. When quoting another member's post the text shown must be an unedited copy of that quotation i.e. it must remain an exact copy including with regard to length and punctuation. p.s. Can't quite worked out if that is tongue in cheek Porky having said that I think that editing in general is a wonderful thing as my origin comment on here asked people to massage me if there was a problem... pps The rules are not the only thing that I have altered, but that is for another day. 'enough said onward and forward COYB
