By population we would be the smallest beating Burnley and Scunthorpe by about 8000 inhabitants Yeovil is 40,000, nearly half of Burton www.yeoviltown.com/

I think one should consider Northampton Town. Starting in Division 4 in !960/61 they had four promotions in five seasons and played in Division 1 in 1965/66 finishing second bottom. They arrived back in to Division 4 in 1969/70. I don't know what their attendances were but it was a heck of a ride. I'm old enough to remember that Kel ! With regard to my original post though I am referring to the championship after it was the old first division.
