Someone will fill in the stats I am sure…
A fantastic record, 60% plus win success rate which is almost unheard of, especially over a 12 month period in two leagues (the second being at a higher level).
A promotion and Championship developing and nurturing a fantastic team spirit one that drove us on and on and then on again into League One.
A success founded on resolute defending, very pragmatic for me, equally as pragmatic as the previous manager, it certainly was not free flowing attacking fluent football that some would suggest. The 1-0 victory was as common with this manager as the previous (and I am not complaining). Was it better football that previously? Yes, I am sure it was, significantly better, no I don't think so, it was tweaked and improved. The sign of a good manager for me.
A good signing here or there, Nasser for sure and some intelligent and well sourced loan signings, one or two dodgy ones as well, but overall I would say he did very well in those.
"Burton: My Barcelona", sticks a bit that does. Not naive to think he would be here for long but he said it, not Gary Newbon and yet he is off halfway through his first full season. Still family comes first, no complaints, but maybe I (we ) took that phrase from that programme a bit too seriously. Maybe there have been a few disagreements with those in charge, a bit of disillusionment with the crowds or probably just the fact he was missing his family and a much bigger club close to home wanted him. Maybe the money is a factor or maybe it is a factor that he will be able to improve the lot of the very loyal staff he has had here - Oldfield, Sharkey, Fenton, Ward et al, it may well be a fantastic opportunity for them.
Two clubs so far, about a year with each and chose to leave, watch that one on the CV.
Overall, I am very grateful, some of the best experiences in football I have had and I give him and his players every credit for it all. Thank you Jimmy, very best wishes, good luck at QPR and I hope we spank you next season!!!
