We either need to give Joachim some decent game time or bring someone in on loan

Brilliant quote from Timmy Thiele post match on Radio Derby. Asked about lack of goals he compared it to a bottle of ketchup. "Sometimes you turn up the bottle and nothing comes out, but other times it all comes out at once". Class!!

There was an inevitability about us failing to win tonight from about 15-20 minutes in once our early flurries came to nothing. Joachim consistently looks a much better prospect than Thiele and I hope he gets a proper chance soon. I lost count of how many right-to-left long balls we played today but this seems to have become our stock move and it's predictable. Their keeper looked really unconfident yet we didn't really test him the whole of the second half (just one poked Nasser effort that I can think of on target). Lucas looks a shade of the player he was a few months back.

We should really have won that with the chances we had but at the same time I think a bit of credit is due for Crewe's defence who worked their socks off. They didn't have much going forward but, y'know...pot, kettle, black. When Duffy hit the bar I think we all must've known how it was going to end.
Quick one about Timmy. Some of the abuse he was getting from some of the wannabe managers in the west stand was an absolute disgrace tonight. They were on his case from the start of the game. Awful support.

It's peculiar isn't it - Jimmy has to divulge his secrets - I just hope JFH shows the boys this video to get them going: www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLwgpjh-Pvw
P.s this losing/drawing run directly coincides with my absence from the matches - I have witnessed 20 wins, 0 draws and 0 losses since I've started watching Burton in the league. I'll be back on Saturday!

Back 5 good.Robbie deserved mom.rest? why was poor timmy left on his own time and time again.I have said before we should have more than one up front. We need more especially at home.Crewe were there for the taking. We need someone in sooner rather than later especially if Bevs has a problem.I think everything else has been said.

I agree TTC07 - I think that Jimmy may have been a little 'spooked' after the 4-0 and feared the worst so just wanted to, perhaps, play a little safer with 1 up front.
We defend incredibly though, do only concede 1 S.O.T is a great effort.

I think Proboards should put a system in where you have to scan your match ticket before you can comment on here!

It seems everyone has gone to panic stations at the lack of goals which i can understand but at the same time we are still third in the league and doing just fine. Yes someone needs to find some form and be consistently scoring goals but im sure it will happen all in good time.

Aurelien Joachim played the full 90 minutes for Luxembourg again tonight. In a 4-2 loss at home to Slovakia. 2 full internationals in 4 days, that's great news but I don't think we should expect him to be starting on Sat. Maybe in Tuesday vs Crewe? Wish he had started. Maybe Saturday.

I know we are doing well as a club, promotions, top 6 in Div 1 etc etc. Fantastically well on our resources but it doesn't hide the fact that primarily I go to a home game expecting us to attack the opposition, give it a go, try and score more goals than the other lot. We don't do that , we don't set up to do that. We have a strong, rigid back 4 and 2 midfielders sitting deep in front, we never really press in numbers the opposition's third of the pitch and hence never look like scoring. It annoys the hell out of me.

The fact we didn't score is annoying, but crikey we gave it a good go. 24 shots in a game is difficult to achieve without attacking.

Thiele deserves praise for last night, not abuse. He was brought in at the very last minute to effectively play Stuart Beavon's role in his absence.
Timmy was probably the only choice at that point, as Jimmy could only put one player into the team that had already been selected and we were just unbelievably unlucky for that injury to happen in the warm up.
Timmy ran his socks off for the entire time he was on that pitch and unfortunately, although he did his best, it doesn't appear to be a role he is suited to and would probably be more suited to a 4-4-2 formation alongside Beavon?
On the whole we created plenty of chances but the ball just would not go in on the night for us.
On the subject of Thiele v Joachim, from what little we've seen, Joachim does seem more suited to the lone target man role, and seems to be a very powerful unit who could potentially wreak a bit of havoc in opposition defences?
I am coming to the conclusion that we must at least try a 4-4-2 approach at home, preferably with a fully fit Stuart Beavon but we really do need someone to cover that Beavon role in case of injury, as neither Thiele nor Joachim are that type of player and sadly Beavon will get injured occasionally.
Budget is playing a huge part though and we really are still punching well above our weight with the squad at our disposal, so we need to try not to let any crowd negativity get through to the players on the pitch.
It's the last thing they need, especially as it's clear to all that every single one of them is giving it all they've got.

Although we were not anywhere near great last night we did create some good scoring chances. I had my arms in the air when Nasser found Lucas in the box, sure of a goal.... The highlights only show the good bits, save for Duff's excellent free-kick off the crossbar in stoppage time.... www.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/football/competitions/league-one/10037119/burton-0-0-creweI had Joachim in my starting 11 on page one and would have him in there on Sat. vs Vale. He has the strength a striker needs to make life easier.

There is no panic from me, I stated before the season started that I thought scoring goals may be a problem for us this season. Having seen Thiele several times now I am impressed with his hard work and running but unfortunately that is not enough at this level. One thing I did notice last night was that on the two occasions we got the ball to Ismail he roasted his full back and got dangerous crosses in. The dilemma is changing the system and playing two up top, we have done on a few occasions this season but we don't look so solid, so that is something for Jimmy and David to work out. I have seen some of Joachim but would like to see a lot more, he may not have fantastic pace but enough to get him self about, he has scored goals at a much higher level than league One, at international, Eredivisie and Champions league level. Overall we are doing superb, a bit of a blip at the moment but I think we have enough in the current squad to do well over the course of the season.
