Any of you going? We are and if it is as well done as the previous one which featured Gary Rowett, (just between him having visited Blackpool, and shortly before the Birmingham approach), it is well worth the evening out. If you are a season ticket holder you can get your ticket this week for £15 each, which includes food. Next week the tickets are on general sale at I think £18 each. Last year Dave Childs acted as the Presenter in his usual humouress fashion, and kept the event under control.

I thought it was nice that they put some of the Q&A on the website for people to follow, allowed everyone a little insight into the evening.
I thought the part about the stadium expansion (if ever required) was an interesting one.

Another good evening, well organised, informal and friendly atmosphere. There is as we expected, a very good relationship within the club which was very evident throughout.

I thought the part about the stadium expansion (if ever required) was an interesting one. The reply Ben gave regarding possible promotion to the Championship was indeed very enlightening, he certainly left us in no doubt that the club would grasp the opportunity should it arise. That the funding available in that division would be used to improve the playing staff and facilities. Personally and I agree with Bournemouthbrewer the details regarding the stadium were very interesting, I was aware that the club have 3 years to make the ground all seated but what was even more concrete for me was Ben firming up details that when the ground was originally built that all 4 sides were built in such a way that not only could they easily be adapted to seating but that an extra tier could be built on top. That I had heard rumoured previously but Ben confirmed this on the night. Can you imagine that ? Ben did also reiterate how disappointed he was that support for the club in the town had not grown how he would have liked.

I was always aware that the steps in each stand had been made so seats could easily be added by the indents into each one but the fact that another tier could be easily added and would be added should need it was the interseting bit for me. As much as i love terrace stadiums it would look amazing with 2 tiers in all 4 stands... providing we got more than 4,000 through the gate! It is such a shame more people aren't getting behind us but hopefully it will continue to pick up as the season goes along.

Don't want to be too pedantic, but I believe Ben said the design remit was for another teir on the 3 terracing sides That is what I have always been led to believe the design was, as well as filling in the corners but did he mention that? The current capacity is 6912 so I can't see any expansion taking place until the weekly numbers grow by quite a bit.

I understood about the terracing being adaptable to seating from when I went round the stadium with Frank Spiers early in its initial development but the 2 tiers bit was something I had heard but never confirmed until Monday evening. Think you are correct as well claymillman regarding the 3 sides. No mention of the corners peacock but that's not to say that isn't so. Again a rumour I have heard previously. The only expansion I could imagine is in the away end to be honest as we are not getting enough home fans through the turnstiles to warrant further development.

I'd enjoy a 'closed corner' terraced stadium...!

I've only ever been crammed in once this season, against Coventry, all the rest seemed to have plenty of room around us. Disappointing not to have had more against Port Vale. I remember the last time we met them in the league, at a lower level too, it was bedlum around the stadium and that was a night match. As Ben says wish we could get more local support, it does make you wonder how many would turn up if we were in the championship? I know we would get many more away fans if that happened, we get more away fans now in L1 than when we were in L2 but home fans, not so sure. I try my best, not being a Burton boy, from Derby. We used to bring up to 8 folks over from Derby sometimes, that's dwindled to 2 of us now and we meet up with 2 Burton lads. The talk about attracting more support from say Derby Co or Forest when they don't have a game isn't working either, look at the attendance last Sat when Derby played Fri, it was poor and the Posh brought a decent amount with them.
What's the answer? Give out a few freebies here and there to encourage folk to come and try, cut prices for lower category games, bring a friend half price etc etc. I've got my theory why we don't get an increased gate in L1, do others think it's just how the Burton folk feel about their team, do they go further afield and watch another team, thoughts??

It is disappointing that the clubs success in achieving L1 status has not resulted in a significant increase in local support. I feel for Ben and his management group. We are getting bigger gates this year but that is down to bigger away support. I don't know the local support numbers but I would guesstimate that home support has increased by 200-300 per game over last season with an average of 2400-2500 per game.
The Coventry match was almost exactly at two-thirds capacity, 4633 of 6912 max. Local support does increase in big games when Derby are not playing, Fulham, QPR last season. But I really don't know what more the club can do to attract more people in an economically stable way. I think things like bring a friend for half price would just result in two people who would normally be going saving half a ticket price, if a friend wants to go they should be able to pay £17 on a one-off. The club have recently offered a 6 ticket package that worked out to £14 per game, and a half-season ticket that works out to £12.72 per game (less than new full-season-ticket holders are paying). The club do give tickets away to youth teams, schools etc and as I have said before, that is the way forward. But that takes time to build the fanbase and we need people to come now. Some people say they won't pay £15 for an FA Cup match (the local attendance vs Posh wax woefull) , and some people say we need to sign a striker who will fill the net. Well, that costs money so come to the games and bring a friend or two who are willing to pay full price. That's a start at least.

Its very difficult to improve the fan base quickly and the main reason for that is, historically we are regarded as a non league club, most youngsters want to be associated with the top prem clubs, it is only very recently that we may have picked up the odd local youngster who will say BAFC are there number 1 club. I was 6 when my Dad took me to my 1st Albion game but I will freely admit that I flirted with being a Rams fan as a youngster purely and simply because it was not cool at the time to be an Albion fan, it was only as I got past my teens that I realised that I didn't give a flying F --k what other shallow minded people thought and pledged my allegiance to the Brewers, if we continue to progress we will get fans who choose the Brewers as there team right from the start, but at the moment it has to be said that the majority of football fans from Burton are Rams fans (shame on them .

I agree Swaddy and Peacock it is not a quick fix but when i used to live up the road from Charlton Athletic i used to go and watch them play. They had just returned to the Vally ground after sharing with various other clubs, they were in the old second division. They had lost a lot of fans over the years and were averaging gates of about 6k, they set a goal called target 10 000 for the next season and went out into Kent and bussed in 1000s of kids from schools in the neighbouring county free of charge, the kids wanted their dads to take them the next week and the fan base grew to an average 10 000 the next season, growing each season. To this day there are coach loads of Charlton fans from the Kent area, at home games there are more home coaches than away coaches, all from Kent much to the annoyance of Gillingham, the two clubs fell out big time over it.
For the Albion to bus in a whole school you would need to have more seating than we have at present in order to contain them, although I’m a terrace man myself, having more seats does give you options to bring in organised groups, hopefully then they will want to come again its a numbers game, for the price of a few coaches Charlton gained 4000 fans in a season.
Not sure what the Albion do now do they give tickets away?, if so are we sure they come to the game or do they give their ticket away, sell it or just not go, you have to physically take them their.
So to sum up we need a few 1000 seats some cheap coaches, ( shame Stevensons rockets aren’t still about) and a county that only has one football league club in it, pinch their fan base, job done.

They said they are getting kids in as part of school deals.
In reality - they've considered this. They will have sound round a table and discussed it.
Unfortunately you can't force attendance. Look at Man City, they are in a much bigger - but not dissimilar situation. Though I go and help them out every now and then when I fancy a big pl game... As there's always tickets haha
