I thought it was worth a separate thread to highlight the great work that BACT do in the area. Children in East Staffordshire schools to play and learn via Burton Albion Community TrustSCHOOLCHILDREN are to learn vital tips on keeping healthy and staying active as part of a new community scheme. Burton Albion is one of only 18 football clubs across the whole of the UK set to head into schools in a bid to help to tackle the problem of obesity in youngsters. Burton Albion Community Trust has linked up with Italian chocolate manufacturer Ferrero and the Football League Trust. It wants to encourage children to take part in physical activity, build awareness of the importance of a balanced diet and adopt an active lifestyle. Stretton Pre-School was kicked out of the Springs Children's Centre, in Stretton, in June. Staffordshire County Council decided to close the building and it was feared it signaled the end of the 47-year-old school. But, after hearing of its plight, Burton Albion Community Trust (BACT) stepped in to save the day and has provided a room at the Pirelli Stadium. BURTON Albion striker Nasser El Khayati is helping to forge links with the town's Muslim community. The Dutch winger and members of the club's community trust visited Burton's Uxbridge Street mosque in order to develop stronger ties. The visit was part of the multicultural work the trust undertakes with the Professional Footballers' Association which includes staff development and community facilitation. Mr El Khayati said: "It's important for the football community and the mosque. There are a lot of young people here, some with dreams of being a football player but the problem is that they might not believe that much because of their Muslim background. Mohammed Tariq, speaking for the mosque, is a Burton Albion supporter and was delighted to extend a welcome to the club and its trust. "Hopefully, after this meeting we can work with the trust, put on more activities for kids and move forward." I'm sure it's easy for all of us to focus on the football results, particularly with our recent success. In many ways I suspect the work of the Trust is even more important for the town and for the development of the club. I may have rose-tinted specs but generally I do think the good behaviour of our fans (cf some other clubs)does offer an opportunity to welcome supporters from everyone in the local community. Pre-season friendly against Sporting Khalsa next year anyone?

Just looking at the dates for Ramadan in the future, in 4 years or so, it will clash with the end of the season. I wonder if a professional footballer would get special dispensation?

Sporting Khalsa are a club formed by Sihks but I think the local Muslim community would show them support in a local friendly. As for devout Muslim players and Ramadan fasting I would think it would be the player who decides how to handle it, whether they were given dispensation or not. They can eat from sundown to sunrise, so even if they were given some type of permission they may decide not to accept it.

Burton Albion stars Calum Butcher and Liam Slade were out in the community this afternoon. It began with a Q&A session at Shobnall Leisure complex where the participants on the holiday camps fired questions at the Albion players. The players then took the time to sign individual programmes for each child. Shane Cansdell-Sherriff, Phil Edwards and Mark Duffy were also out in the community this aftrernoon as they visited a Burton Albion Community Trust holiday camp at Windsor Park Middle School. # Nasser El Khayati and Jerome Binnom-Williams were also supporting the community this afternoon as they visited 24 Brewers fans on a ground tour of the Pirelli Stadium.
