The worrying thing for me was the back 4 and how vulnerable we were in the air throughout. Including Diamond, Stanton and Holness against people playing 3 leagues below (4 last season).

Holness worries me. He looks like he should be fighting one of the Klitschko brothers rather than a footballer. He is enormous. Looks overweight and lacking mobility. Twas absolute bobbins as a night out. Stuff pre-season, got better things to spend money on!

Its centre mid that worries me, Bolder gone, Macgrath and Dyer not good enough, Weir ? I realy hope we sign Lee Bell!

This is why I was not in favour of Rowett being appointed manager, our defence was poor when he was the assistant manager , it certainly did not improve when he took over caretaker manager , and now it doesn't seem to be any better with supposedly better defenders in the side .
I hope we are proved wrong once the season starts and we do see a good solid back four .

Weir & Bell looked a very good partnership against Aston Villa and Gresley, in my opinion that's what we missed last night. Hopefully they'll be our center midfield partnership next season.

I agree I think Weir and Bell would be our best option at the moment. Just wish we could get a big central mid to boss the midfield and give the defence some protection when we don't have the ball. Big physical teams tend to do well in this league, and last season we got bullied out of some games. A right back with a final ball when in the last third of the pitch would be nice as well. Mags and Jimmy look like the starting wide men at the moment.

We lose one game against ilkeston in PRE SEASON and people are over reacting. Give them a chance to settle in and play some league games first. Then criticise if its not working out.

To put it into perspective, I understand Derby lost at Mansfield tonight . Pre season games mean very little. Nobody wants to get hurt or risk themselves being out for the start of the season

I don't think in the main people were criticising - More expressing concern.

I don't think in the main people were criticising - More expressing concern. Thats fair enough. I do agree about the centre midfield though, would like to see something different in there. A big physical player would be useful i think.

I don't think in the main people were criticising - More expressing concern. Mike... you're joking! It looks like criticism to me... whether justified or not. Ok, I wasn't at Ilkeston. But in the Villa game, I saw about four free kicks the whole match and not a second added on by the ref in either half because he had no reason to. There were very few tackles. Pre season friendlies are not the real thing and people are reading too much into them. For god's sake, Alfreton beat "Sheffield Wednesday" 14-0 last season in a pre-season friendly!! Please, let's not see this new board demonstrate as little perspective as the other one....

Well Said - Colston
Also good useful comment from "Ant" !
Jeez, a brand new Board and we are only a couple of weeks into the pre-season time and here comes the same old CRAPPY comments from the SAME OLD crappy posters ! ! STFU - - ! ! ! ! !
Phillips this, and Atkins that - - and one of them did NOT even play and the other was the MOM at Ilkeston and was solid versus Gresty.
The time to experiment is in pre-season; the time to put newbies to the test is pre-season and the time to win games is when the bell rings on the ACTUAL season opening.

Well let's hope you're right lads - but I'm sorry the warning signs are already there. I went to Ilkeston full of hope Colston, as I enjoyed the Villa game, but we got the run around by a team 3 leagues below and there was very little quality about us. I'd also say that Ilkeston's lads were fitter too. This season League 2 is going to be stronger than ever and we are going to need to step up our efforts to avoid another relegation scrap. That is being realistic and wanting us to be prepared and ready for it - it's NOT moaning. It's no use only seeing things through yellow tinted specs I'm afraid and I'm sorry but as I walked out of the ground the 'Rowett out' mutterings were all around me. We'll see what happens against Derby and I hope we look a different team on our own pitch.

[/quote] I have to agree with you Colston, and I was one of the moaners from Wed, because I was disappointed with the performance. However, I accept this is nowhere near a proper league game, and the team was a mixed group. What does concern me more is the number of players who are already injured, even though they are all hopefully minor injuries keeping them out of considration for precautionary reasons. I personally never heard anyone calling for GR to go within our small group.
