12 shots to 3 9 corners 2 59 per cent possession away
Beats the 5-0 we lost to them last season
Lucky lucky Barnsley

Just seen the penalty on Sky and it looks very soft indeed.
it looked as though the linesman was waving his arm to say no penalty because he certainly didn't raise his flag across his chest.
on to Blackpool and hopefully take advantage of their situation and take 3 points.

I had no idea the stats were so far in our favour. Personally I thought we just shaded it but a point would have been about right. In fact I said at half time that it had 0-0 written all over it.
The penalty was soft as shit but the problems started when our defenders (SCS and Mousinho or Edwards I think) played "after you...no, after you" in the penalty area. There were two "fouls"...the first foul I actually thought was a penalty but the second was a dive. It's almost as if the player and the ref had agreed between themselves that he'd missed the first one so he'd have another go at it so it could be given this time. Ludicrous. The ref and his assistants actually gave us absolutely nothing all afternoon to the point where it was almost a parody. Their centre half could have brought out a chainsaw and sliced Beavon up in front of us all and the ref would have sent Beavon off for bleeding excessively. Yes folks, it was that bad.
As I said, we were well worth a point at least. Duffy missed an absolute sitter, Thiele hit the bar from about 25 yards, Nasser had a good chance, Phil had a couple of attempts so there's a lot to be positive about still. The defence (apart from the one calamity) looked solid and McLaughlin didn't have a great deal to do apart from pick the ball out of his net after the penalty. JBW came on and impressed (again) when he shook off 2 or 3 Barnsley defenders to set Duffy up for his howling miss. Wouldn't mind seeing more of Thiele as well.
I've got more to say and I'm sure it'll come out in the next few days but I'm a lot happier than the last time I got home from Oakwell. If we play like that every week then we'll be fine in league one.

Saw the game as Jimmy did to be honest, controlled the majority of the game but didn't take our chances, played well in my opinion. I said at half time if one of them went down in the box the ref would give them a penalty and we would rue our missed chances and that's how it turned out. Harsh reality and lesson to be learned in league 1. We move on to Blackpool away on Tuesday.

We certainly largely controlled the game. we deserved at least a draw, and the penalty was as soft as they come. We still though failed to score. Games like this will happen from time to time, but we still look a very good side, and Barnsley were very lucky to take 3 points.

If we look much better than Barnsley when we're away from home it's very positive. They're a good team who are expecting a top 10 finish this season.

Didn't make the match but watched the highlights, never a penalty, that's what is annoying about refs, one day a stone wall peno could be waved away then you get soft decisions like that one, both having a huge influence on the outcome of a game.
Still the fact that we can now more than match Barnsley away is testament to how far we have come.

Great try by Timmy from 30ish yards off the bar. Duffy should have buried that chance. Shane, just put it out for a throwin. Re: the pen...if that had been the other way round I would have been screaming for a pen.

Agree - apparently the linesman had flagged for a free kick prior to the penalty being given though which is annoying.

We'll move on.

Just back from cruising the Coventry and Oxford canals and watched this video. 1:35 to 2:12, spot on. What a great manager we have! And not only that bit, the entire interview, minutes after the loss! Priceless! Enjoy him while we can...

We'll move on. McLaughlin was quoted post-match saying that the linesman indicated to him that he had flagged for a free kick. Of course, the highlights show that the linesman actually waved his hands dismissively as if to say "no foul", after the second trip on Scowen. Safe to say, he wasn't impressed.

Having watched the excellent extended highlights on Brewers Player, it is clear that both teams had opportunities to score before and after the goal. I agree that a draw would have been a fairer result but Burton could well have won it too had we been more clinical in front of goal. The assistant referee clearly indicates "no foul" for the penalty decision. Are refs not allowed to change their minds? The Barnsley player takes a dive.

A referee can change his/her decision up until play restarts. In this case, up until the whistle blows and the penalty is taken.
