What do you think of the new Football League coverage on Channnel 5? I might get used to it, but at the moment I missed the small studio with one anchorman, plus one pundit (eg Leroy Rosenior), passing the comments. I also preferred the structure of the old BBC programme. The Channel five studio filled with footy fans was like the "Springwatch Unsprung" programme. (For the unfamiliar, this programme follows Springwatch with a small studio filled with wildlife eunthusiasts. There is very little scripted, and the programme has an organised chaos about it, which makes it charming and entertaining). In my view this does not work on our footy show. I prefer the organised structure of league by league highlights. This is especially helpful if you are trying to find your own game from a recording.

I watched it ,didn't like it , get rid of the studio audience who are just standing there trying to look interested . I will record it each week , but fast forward to around 30 minutes when League One starts .

I stopped watching the football league show on BBC. Just used to watch on i-player and scroll forward, find the Burton game, watch all 30 seconds and turn off.

All that standing around should be good for the health of middle-aged football managers everywhere - I hear Martin Allen, at least, has resolved to eat fewer pies after seeing himself on last night's show.
I think the presenters are OK but the format - the studio audience particularly, doesn't work. Do they need two presenters in the studio? Maybe they could alternate - have one in the studio with a pundit or two - the usual ex-player/manager, while the other could be at a ground profiling a club, interviewing current managers/players/fans, pre-match/post-match (as Clem used to do).....you can't really vary too much from the well-worn formula showing highlights with some analysis and opinion can you? You need to get the balance right and the analysis and opinion has to be worth listening to (mostly).

I record all such footie programmes, MOTD and this new one, then just FF to the good bits. I did watch the new highlights show on 5 for a little while but got fed up after about 10 mins. The beeb did a better job, although miserable Steve Claridge was a bit of a turn off.
