Helo. Gateshead fan here. Jimmy Philips has signed for us. I believe he had a bad knee injury last year but recovered well. Just want to know what you thought of him. Cheers Geordie

He has lots of ability but has never really consistently put it together in my opinion, also very injury prone. Others will have a totally opposite view of him, he is the kind of player who splits fans views. Having said that Jimmy is a very likeable lad and I wish him well at Gateshead, if he can put it all together he could turn out to be a cracking player.

I really rated him, thought he was a cracking player. Very quick and could turn players on a sixpence. However his final ball could sometimes let him down. Always gave everything for the Brewers. If he can stay injury free and have a good run in the side you have yourselves a real gem.

Jimmy certainly divided opinion. He is a great lad who works hard has a lot of skill, but his final ball can often let him down. Personally although he is regarded as a winger, he can do an excellent job in central midfield. He can use both feet, and is naturally right footed, but prefers the left wing. I wish him all the best with you, and with the right conditions within your club, he could be a major asset in my opinion.

This is from the Gateshead Offy site. www.gateshead-fc.com/5448/the-right-place-for-me-phillips-seals-heed-move?It is a lovely club and home of course to the mighty Jon Shaw so perhaps is not as surprisingly distant move after all. Was reading the Non League Paper a couple of weeks ago where Shaw was described as still good but getting old and loosing his pace.. (Shawly not!

Not too good at geography in Gateshead. Or has the Derbyshire border been moved to take in the Pirelli?

I was reading a profile of Burton Albion on the official Shrewsbury Town website, apparently they quote us as being a Derbyshire club ! Surely basic geography is not a difficult subject to master.

I would describe Jimmy as a good, quick, tricky winger willing run at players and get the crosses into the box, but a touch lightweight. That was before his serious knee injury. He never really got back into the squad after that, mainly due to better players being signed, so not sure what you should expect.

Cheers Geordie A fit and consistent Jimmy Phillips will do exceptionally well in the Conference. His best run for us came to an end when he suffered the injury that he's still coming back from. I maintain that had him and Ismail stayed fit for that run in then we would have gone up through the play offs that season but we fell short at Wembley. As it happens we pissed league 2 the year after but I digress Best of luck to Jimmy, Jon Shaw and Gateshead for this season.
