Twitter and Facebook is awash with the fact that he is about to join Portsmouth.
IMHO a highly talented player, one who also, certainly towards the end of his Albion days became very hardworking and took plenty of whacks for the cause.
I think he could and would have done really well in League One. I assume her has moved to Pompey because they have offered him a few more quid. I don't necessarily blame him but I also think he has probably made the wrong career choice.
Anyway, from me, thanks Adam, good luck and score a hatfull of goals for Pompey in League Two.

Good luck to him. I think he's coming in for quite a bit of unjust and uncalled for grief on that godforsaken Facebook group at the moment. Personally I always thought we played better with him in the team.
I'm sure Jimmy will find an adequate replacement but I can't help but question why anyone would think it's a strange move. He was the successor to the Corbs Memorial Scapegoat role and I heard some absolutely disgraceful things shouted at him last season. He's going to a club that will pay him more, will likely finish top 3 next season given their excellent recruitment both on and off the pitch and will be buoyed by the huge and vociferous support Pompey get. Something he thrives on. Something he could've done with a bit more of when he wasn't playing so well last season.
As I said, good luck to him if the move does go through and I genuinely hope he gets thought of a bit better at Pompey than he ever did here.

I'm sorry but for me this just proves he is a football mercenary - happy to sell his soul to the highest bidder., rather than buy into the spirit of a club. JFH had an enormous impact on him, when frankly he wasn't really up to it prior to. He will certainly miss Jimmy's influence and development.

Well, it looks likely?..... But do we know he is moving just because of money? Wonder if there is another reason(s)? If it happens I'll be sad to see Adam go, and I'll wish him all the best. I agree that he was subject to ridiculous uncalled for criticism here from the stands and on social media forums. I also agree that he worked much harder and performed better after Jimmy arrived, and that he may well miss that positive influence should he leave. Pompey are closing in on the signing of Adam McGurk. The forward will tomorrow be manager Paul Cook’s fifth summer capture, with Christian Burgess also set to move to Fratton Park. www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/pompey/pompey-close-in-on-adam-mcgurk-1-6813649

A bit of both from me, Adam undoubtably has quality but looses the ball far too cheaply too often. I like him as a player but fully expected him to leave this close season. I feel he would have done well in league 1 as he did for Tranmere. Playing in as high a standard as you can shows ambition, McGurk looks like he is signing for a bigger club but in a lower league which shows what drives him rather than him buying into the Brewers exciting future. I am confident Jimmy will replace him with a better and more consistent option.

I agree with you Terraceman - there are better and more consistent options available.

Undoubtably McGurk has football skills and can show flashes of briĺliance. I would also agree about the unacceptable level of unjustified criticism. However, call me old fashioned but I expect strikers to score goals. 7 goals in 41 appearances last season (according to Soccerbase) is not really good enough inmy humble opinion.

Pompey fans down here are jumping up and down in delight that McGurk is signing for them today! For me, he was far too inconsistent................Pompey will discover this!

Adam McGurk has some great qualities along with some weaknesses like most players. He scored some vital goals for us in big games. He was however reluctant to pass the ball, (although JFH seemed to correct this problem), and his major skill weakness was too often his first touch. I don't stand in terracing so never witnessed the ridiculous criticism he apparently received. This is something from some of our so called supporters that I have never understood. I think JFH would have been at least half expecting him to go, and I am confident we can adequately cover this loss. Anyway good luck to him, and we move on.

JFH had an enormous impact on him, when frankly he wasn't really up to it prior to. He will certainly miss Jimmy's influence and development. That's a pretty harsh accusation to make considering you don't know him or the circumstances that led to the move. You might want to take a look at some of our own manager's transfers during his playing career before labelling the dastardly Adam McGurk a mercenary. Is he supposed to stay here even if he doesn't want to play here? If he's offered, say, three times the salary he was on here and the chance to play in front of 15,000 people every week for a club that are currently favourites to win L2 next season, is he supposed to turn that down because Burton Albion are a nice club? You're also forgetting that he's gone to play for a manager who also has a L2 title on his CV. I love Jimmy to bits but he's not the only highly rated young manager in the lower leagues and Cook has got a few years and a bit more lower league managerial experience under his belt. Maybe Paul Cook has convinced Adam that he can get more out of him than Jimmy has done. Maybe Adam and Jimmy just didn't get on. Who knows? Interview with him today on Pompey's offy site “What attracted me was the size of the club and the large crowds that come to watch the games. I’ve played against Pompey a few times and I’ve always been struck by how fantastic the fans have been, despite a difficult few years. They stick with their side, even when they’re not winning. That’s always impressed me and my team-mates. I’ve also played against Paul Cook’s Chesterfield sides before. I liked the way they approach the game and also how much they wanted to play for him. When I sat down to talk to him, I could see how much passion he has and wanted to be a part of that." If you look at the move objectively it makes perfect sense for Adam. I'm not denying that the ability he clearly has didn't come to the fore as often as it did but I can think of a fair few games post Christmas where he was the difference. What did he get for it? Well I can definitely remember a fair few cheers going up when he got subbed in one home game. It might have been the same one where the players got booed off by some of the 2,399 that had turned up to watch title chasing Burton have the audacity to draw 0-0 with AFC Wimbledon at home but I can't be sure. Bigger club, bigger crowds, bigger salary. Simple as that. I don't blame him in the slightest and there's a huge chance he'll be in L1 anyway this time next year.

Some good points raised from different angles. I still think we will find a better option and his loss is not going to be bad for us in the overall picture.

I think the general concensus on the terraces last season was that McGurk at his best was a super player but unfortunately we didn't see enough of that best?
Of all the players in our squad last season, he consistently displayed poor body language on the pitch, especially if things weren't going quite right for him. It always appeared that he was looking for anyone to blame but himself, if things weren't running for him whereas others were prepared to stand up and be counted and work a bit harder.
In the final run in, he did put in improved performances but I never felt that he looked fully "together" with the rest of the squad, even when we went into full blown celebration mode?
I am convinced that we will find a replacement who will blend better with the squad and work harder to prove his worth to the squad. It may be that this replacement will not have as much natural talent as Adam but that which he does have will be better channeled?
We watch this space with great anticipation!

I think fans who criticize players are sometimes not looking at the facts, and not considering what job the manager is asking a player to do. To say that Adam was a striker for us is misleasding, I think you could count on one hand the number of times he started as a striker. Jimmy used him as a box-to-box midfielder and he in most games he was a defending midfielder as much as an attacking midfielder. But that (the criticism) seems to happen to players with a bit of flair in their game, eg: Mags and Gurks.

Talented but inconsistent player
How many players have left us in the last 3 years and actually gone on to do better?
It's an opportunity for him.
Good luck but I doubt we will be looking at him in a couple of years and thinking wish we had kept him TBH

I agree, he was also asked to be the 'target man' outlet ball for the goal kicks, throw ins and long defensive fee kicks, a job he did very well. I also think it was his most effective role. When he was used as a striker/floating attacker I think he drifted out of the game too much. He may have preferred the latter role and he may be expecting that kind of role at Pompey but sometimes as with Mags (who I believe wanted to play centre midfield) you find your best position is not always your favourite one.

I still would have rather that he stayed and not left, but he will no doubt play every week for them.
We need a striker soon!
