Some of the football we played during the rebuilding phase in the Conference was not the best, but I suppose Nigel had the credit of winning the Unibond (although I remember a banner being put up at the Pirelli). 2004/5 saw some awful football in the league, but I think that was the year we got to the Trophy semi-finals. It was about halfway through the following season (after a poor start iirc) that everything started to click and the progress became clear. It's a shame Sheffield United and their fans don't have the patience to see what could happen, but I suppose they are trying to play catch up with Sheffield Wednesday and want the moon on a stick and want it yesterday. They've been trying to catch up with Sheffield Wednesday for 148 years :-) Who, Sheffiels United?

Sheffield United found their level. LOL give me a break.
Clough was a disaster, his win% was only that high because of the cups, it was closer to 40% in the league - Nothing special.
He was arrogant, fell out with players, picked on and publicly slated certain players continuously.
Played an entire season with no centre halves because he bombed one out after a couple of bad games, fell out with another, and realised the one he brought from Blackpool was too young and not ready (all way back in August) then had the cheek to say we didn't go up because we didn't have any centre halves.
He played every game not to lose rather than to win, go a goal up then just sit back and it cost us all to often. Lets try and defend 1-0 leads every week with no CB's and a keeper that can't save long range efforts! Great plan Nige
Had multiple pops at the fans because we didn't buy into his belief that a 4 point improvement on the previous seasons total despite spending millions was good enough, I guess the board didn't buy it either.
His scouting network went no further than Derby, Blackpool or Scotland for the most part. He brought so much shit in from derby it was mind blowing.
Gave Jay McEveley another contract. Enough said there.
Negative Nigel was not just a reputation his tactics earned for him. When asked if we would take 9 points from 3 home games against some of the leagues cannon fodder towards the end of the season he responds "No that won't happen" - Wow cheers for the lift, you miserable %$^&.
These are just some of the gripes I had with him.
This has been THE worst season I have ever spent watching United, I have been bored to tears at times and a lot Utd fans feel the same way.
I only hope he gets another job soon because I know he will come in and take a lot of the shit off our hands like he did with Derby.

To Add to that, we now have a manager that is the polar opposite, so upbeat, so positive!! Listening to Adkins is like a breath of fresh air!
We now have a manager that has managed 3 seasons in league 1 and won promotion every single time.
Clough is gone, and already forgotten!

What is your level then?
Brayford a bad signing?
Only 4 teams conceded fewer goals in the league, despite not having any centre halves...
I have never seen a more dignified response from a manager as from Clough when Shred died.
I think Adkins is a good manager, he won't be the first to benefit from a squad inherited from Clough.
But, if he doesn't get you up next season, you going to sack him too? Your record of manager merry go round is appalling!

Our level? We have spent approximately 10 years out of 126 outside the top 2 divisions, go figure....

Rowett had a very similar style, 11 men in the box at corners, park the bus and play hoofball. That wasn't often enjoyable to watch but it nearly worked. Jimmy changed things, he is able to combine the defend at all costs plan with an exciting, attacking, ball on the pitch, possession style of play. And that is enjoyable to watch and definitely worked for the team and the supporters.
