Disappointed for Nigel and his back room team.

Chesterfield could be a strong possibility, good luck to him wherever he goes

Wouldn't be surprised if he took some time out right now. It's about time these clubs realised that instant gratification isn't possible.

It was on the cards , there were a lot of disgruntled Sheffield United fans who had got it in for Nigel before they even made the play-offs .And it had got a lot worse after they got knocked out by Swindon . As already mentioned he could be a possible candidate for Chesterfield .

I thought it would have happened after the play off defeat last week, not surprised at all Blades fans have been very disgruntled with him for some time. He won't be going to Chesterfield just yet as they have already appointed Dean Saunders.

I had forgotten they had appointed Saunders . Not sure he will last very long at Chesterfield !

According to Wikipedia, his win percentage at the Blades was the highest of any permanent manager in the club's entire history. They deserve everything they get, I hope they go out of existence. A shocking decision.
They had 6 managers in 6 and a half years after Warnock left in 2007 and they spiralled to the foot of Division 3. When will clubs ever learn?

Of the 3 clubs he has managed the only chairman who has given him time to build properly is Ben Robinson !

"When will clubs ever learn?" If he'd stayed at the Blades I'm sure they would have been top 3 minimum this season. Instead they'll have a new manager with new ideas and probably won't finish that high now. And it will serves them right. Stupid decision. How can managers ever build a club up nowadays? (I exempt BAFC from this question - at least Ben gives his managers time - other clubs take note). EDIT - Terraceman has (partially) beat me to it!

It's very easy to blame the fact that the club is owned by a rich man from overseas. I hope it turns on them at least as badly as the Newcastle fans wanting rid of Pardew has worked for them.

Something of a shame for Brayford as well.

Hi, a United fan here. Even though from the outside looking in this decision may seem unjust, in my and many other blades fans opinions it has been coming for a while. The football being played is some of the worst in recent years as we set up not to lose the game and if we go 1 up just park the bus, also he has played the majority of the season with no recognised centre backs as the 2 we had clough banished from the club. Anyway, we have been linked to jfh so just wanted your opinion of him, best of luck for the upcoming season, hope the Brewers do well!

JFH has done an inspired job along with David Oldfield but he's still learning his trade. He has picked a club who will allow him to do that because we have a very supportive chairman who actually supports BAFC. I would seriously doubt he will be leaving before next season is over at least. I would take no notice of JFH being linked to the Blades, he will be linked and already has been linked with any club who get rid of their manager who are deemed to be bigger than Burton Albion. Its just paper talk to fill column inches. Thanks for the good wishes, I believe we will do well myself. What do you think the chances are of Florent Cuvelier joining Albion ?

Under clough, I imagine it was nearly a done deal as clough had apparently fallen out with him. However, under new management your guess is as good as mine!

I have been having an on running debate over the last day or so with other Blades fans. Clough has the best winning percentage of all time of United fans. You complain about the defence yet only 4 teams have conceded fewer. You have had some fantastic cup runs and have come from the bottom of the league in a season and a half. Prior to Clough you had 6 managers in 6 and a half years and spiralled to the bottom of Division 3, so changing managers every year or so obviously worked!!. He was building, you knew when you took him he was for the long term. I despise the short termism. Clough was the best thing that ever happened to you and you have thrown away the chance of building long term success. You may get up next year with your next Flash in the Pan manager, but it won't last. I am afraid you have now found your level. You deserve all you get. Welcome to our friendly board by the way

Some of the football we played during the rebuilding phase in the Conference was not the best, but I suppose Nigel had the credit of winning the Unibond (although I remember a banner being put up at the Pirelli). 2004/5 saw some awful football in the league, but I think that was the year we got to the Trophy semi-finals. It was about halfway through the following season (after a poor start iirc) that everything started to click and the progress became clear. It's a shame Sheffield United and their fans don't have the patience to see what could happen, but I suppose they are trying to play catch up with Sheffield Wednesday and want the moon on a stick and want it yesterday.

They've been trying to catch up with Sheffield Wednesday for 148 years :-)
