I am sitting in a pub in Cambridge reading their local newspaper, The Cambridge News. The headline article is that tomorrow their security staff are being issued with, and are being allowed to use a breathalyser to test fans for levels of alcohol in the blood. A breathalyser level of twice the drink limit could lead to the security staff denying the person entry into the ground. Be warned. This may just be paper talk but it is on page one of the paper...

There are about eight Burton stewards going tomorrow who will be monitoring our supporters as they enter the ground. Any who are considered to be drunk will not be allowed to go in. Heard that from the head steward on Wednesday night at the ladies game.

This alcohol scheme extends to Macdonalds, pubs and nightclubs in Cambridge. They even have a detector which will pick up alcohol in any soft drinks you attempt to take into the Shabby stadium ! Words fail me !

Like most fans, I'll be consuming exactly the same amount of alcohol as I do at every away game...none because I'm driving. However I do understand there are those who enjoy a pint or two but this is just typical of the sort of stunt Cambridge love to pull!
Do we have any history whatsoever, of crowd problems...NO, people being abusive or violent through drink...NO?
So just be warned, as it looks to me as though though they will be looking for any excuse to exercise their powers, just so they can say..."There, we told you so!"
After all, their "campaign" wouldn't be successful without the need to eject a few fans or worse still get them arrested, would it?
I'm disgusted at the Cambridge News making this a front page story and blowing it out of all proportion...still, never let the facts stand in the way of a good story!
