As a new poster.. ( and not a Brewers fan till I moved in the area ) I wondered what people think of ways to get the average over 3000 a week ( in home fans ). The ave gate this season is up but largely due to shrews/Luton/tranmere away support. could it be done?
Town centre advertising? Shop in centre? kids for a quid? fiver entry games in jpt? more school places? free buses from swad?
im sure you have already discussed this before but always good to discuss again...

The club have ran most of those promos (not free buses though I don't think) and still do. U16s for a quid, and local Youth teams promos coming soon. Those are great to hopefully get more long term fans in. I do think think tho for the rest of us an effective way is for everyone to try and bring a mate. I started 7 years ago with a group of 3 regulars and we are now 6 with one or two more on occasion. It's difficult though with so many bigger established clubs nearby, Rams, Forest, Foxes, Blues, Villians... When we are promoted things should improve, and also with a few younger, stylish players the game day entertainment will improve. So here's hoping! COYB!

It frustrates me that the people of Burton and surrounding areas are not getting behind the club. I live in South Derbyshire, it takes me 15 minutes to get from my front door to the Pirelli, it takes me 20 to get to the Ipro, my son goes to the local school where there are about 300 pupils, of which he is the only brewers fan. When I talk to local people about football and I mention being a Brewers fan it is seen as unusual, but people seem to know a lot about the team, results and players etc. so this shows that there is a slow growing interest, it's just a case of people taking the next step and going. It would be good to see free kids tickets being given out (controlled)with accompanying full paying adult to school children at local schools, with parking info and directions to ground, this may get the kids pestering their parents to go. A lot of people have in recent years, moved into the area, people need to see what a great family friendly club Albion are.

Still grumbling that we don't advertise our home games outside the stadium etc etc etc. I think trying cheap bus travel, to and from the Pirelli from areas such as Branston, Winshill, Stapenhill, Tutbury and others may be a useful scheme to try. Surely it wouldn't cost a fortune as a pilot scheme. The kids idea too is good and perhaps both could be combined. I had to go to Birmingham when we played at Cheltenham recently, I was seething seeing lots of people on platform one going in the opposite direction to watch some team in the next county !

Yes I know about the junior league day and a great idea it is, but not all children who like football play football, my point is that from where I live to the ground is about 6-7 miles in a straight line, we have kids walking round in Derby, Leicester and Forest shirts the latter two being 45 mins away. Burton is a place people go to shop but the club has never seemed to promote itself within the area, Derby have sent Rammy down to the school a couple of times in the last couple of years and have had their community teams coaching Kids etc. For some reason football wise it seems like Burton is not the local team. But I suppose although I have watched the Brewers 20 plus years for many people it is a new club and only started to be taken seriously when we drew Man U in the cup a few years back. On Monday evening we will watch the local east midlands news on TV and as per usual, they will mention on the sports the usual bigger teams then Notts county, Mansfeild then....oh they have forgot us again.

Football support is a generational thing. I grew up supporting the same "big" club that my Dad did because he wanted me to follow the same club. It was only around the year 2000 when I was about 22 that a mate of mine suggested that we go and watch the Brewers just for a bit of "something different"...I went to a few more that season but it was only really the following season when they won the Unibond and were virtually indestructable that I got hooked in. Yes folks, I got here because I'm a glory hunter My point is that these kids that you see walking around in Derby/Forest/Leicester shirts...and I'm sure you can add plenty more clubs to that list...are probably following those teams because their parents are supporters of those clubs and in turn their parents were and so on and so forth. A fine example is a mate of mine's missus has just had their first son. He's not even 1 yet and my mate has already bought him the Derby mini kit which is far too big for him now but he wants to get him into a Derby kit as soon as possible! My mate is Burton born and bred but his Dad was a season ticket holder on the Ossie end at the BBG. Same goes for a bloke I kind of know but I'm friends with on FB. His lad is about 4 or 5 but every photo that gets posted of him is in a Liverpool shirt. Again, born and bred in Burton but because his Dad grew up watching Rush, Dalglish, Molby, Hansen etc...it's passed down. He also regularly ridicules other people for watching Burton because it's "park football" and you can watch the real stuff on Sky I think the next generation of Brewers supporters will mainly come from one of two areas. It will either be from the mass of lads that stand near me in the west stand whose brothers/sisters/younger mates will get dragged into coming along, will only start coming as a social thing but as they get older will get more into the football or it will be from the relatively minor percentage of supporters that make it a generational thing. I say minor because I don't think the generational thing works quite as well with us because as there are FAR more supporters of bigger clubs knocking about in Burton, if a parent wants their kid to grow up as a Brewer but his/her mates all support *insert the name of one of many bigger clubs, local or otherwise* then peer pressure will win. Bottom line is the bigger club will always be the bigger pull. Just a quick one on schools. The Burton Albion Community Trust work tirelessly with schools in the area and do a hell of a lot of work with the local kids but I think for some reason it either goes unnoticed or the club don't sing it from the rooftops as much as they should. Finally, I'm utterly convinced that advertsing games outside the stadium wouldn't make the blindest bit of difference. If people show interest in the club but can't be bothered to find out when we're playing or need a billboard to tell them then they can't be that interested! We're in a day and age of smartphones. You can get hold of the information in seconds. I've said it before but if Ben thought it would make a difference then we'd see something outside the stadium. He's not the type of bloke to turn down business!

Yet again on tonight's BBC east mids news sport, no mention of Burton. About 4 mins given to Mansfield though. ?? When we played Man u a few years back we were lead story and they were all over us, so its not a regional TV thing.

Burton as a town and football club do appear on East Midlands Today when it suits the BBC , i.e serious road accident or when a big story comes out of the Albion .

So do we get coverage on west mids TV then ? The towns and villages just south of Derby, all within 2-8 miles of the ground get the tv from east mids so we get nothing on Burton, we were on a lot for last years play off final though, this may be going slightly off the topic but this may contribute a bit to people that are within a few miles of the ground feeling it is not a local club. I know the community trust are doing a great job, and Radio Derby and Derby evening telegraph help by covering us. I just feel that there is a lot of support that could be taken from the other side of the Trent. Although I can understand most supporters follow the clubs their parents follow, I know there are a lot of parents that do not follow or like football but their kids love the game. Has anyone done any research on what areas our fan base is from?

There won't be many who live outside of the Radio Derby coverage area.

I understand that most of the support is from within the radio Derby coverage area as that covers south Derbyshire and our part of Staffordshire, what I was wondering was within this area where do our support come from, as when I speak to people at games they are from Burton, Tutbury and uttoxeter way, obviously I have only spoke to a few people but to those I have it seems like the support comes mostly from Burton and to the West of Burton
