Aug 20th - 3 Games, 9 Points, 2nd in the table and Moving Forward
Well, being away and watching from the sidelines last night it was good to see the result. But there have been very varied comments on here and FB about this game, from the negative to cautiously optimistic to the almost giddy. Trying to visualise the performance is not an accurate take and probably not wise, but was the 2nd half reversion to last years tactic to defend the lead the result of that game being our 4th in 11 days. We are in a very good position already but the three league games have been against teams in the bottom 1/4 of the table if we can believe that really matters in the big picture, I suppose form does matter though and teams are where they are for a reason.
Moving forward, Newport are also in that end of the table, then there is QPR on *the day after* Tuesday and back to the league on Sat with Mansfield which will be our 7th game in 22 days. The Mansfield game will begin a string of 9 games against strong opposition (if we can believe the current table and what we read) and should be a test to show where we fit into the league right now. One good thing is those 9 games are spread over 8 weeks, and another good thing could be if we sign someone to replace Billy's goal production.
I think that I am in the cautiously optimistic camp right now.

I think the QPR game is Wednesday......?
Your general point that we haven't really played anyone half-decent yet is probably true - there will be sterner tests ahead and soon - so I don't think we should get too carried away with our excellent start....that said you can of course only play the teams as the fixture list draws them out for you and it's all points in the bag......whether towards survival or a promotion challenge
The next two games will not be easy and I'll be surprised if we get 6 points from them - Newport will no doubt be desperate to get some points on the board after their poor start and the Stags have won two (Oxford and Newport) and were by all accounts unlucky not to get anything out of their game against the Cobblers.....hope the QPR game is not a distraction....

5 Games, 13 Points, tied for top of the table and Moving Forward
The 7 games in 22 days has come to an end. But, As stated above on Aug.20th, The Mansfield game will begin a string of 9 games against strong opposition (if we can believe the current table and what we read) and should be a test to show where we fit into the league right now. One good thing is those 9 games are spread over 8 weeks.
edit: make that 10 games now over 7 weeks, inc. the Brighton match. We should have a better idea where we stand on Oct.18th, but I think I'll be getting the sunglasses out.

6 Games, 16 Points, TOP of the table and Moving Forward make that 9 games over the next 6 weeks now, inc. the Brighton and Doncaster matches(though the JPT match will feature few first team starters I should think). We should have a better idea where we stand on Oct.18th, but I STILL think I'll be getting the sunglasses out especially after yesterdays performance vs Pompey!!

Sept.13th, 7 Games, 19 Points, +8GD, TOP the table and Moving Forward
Another solid performance vs York! "Considering games played" we are not only the team with best start in L2, but the team with the best start in all leagues so far this season!
We have two tough away games this week, vs Wimbledon (with Tubbs Akinfenwa) and then Bury. Things are looking very bright for the Brewers!

Sept.16th, 8 Games, 19 Points, +5GD, TOP the table and Moving Forward
Well, the wombles were always going to be tough to beat and with Tubbs and Akinfenwa on form it's not all that surprising we were turned over by them, it was always going to happen at some point. We now have the first loss out of the way and can re-focus for the Bury game. Hopefully no serious injuries from this game.

Sept.22nd, 9 Games, 19 Points, +3GD, 2nd place and Moving Forward
Bury are one of the odds on teams to win this division and us having a second poor defensive game in a row didn't help matters. We were never going to win or draw every match and things are starting to level out. I think the Wigan and QPR wins may have gotten us all a bit giddy?
But pre-season I would have taken 2nd place with a +3GD after 9 games. We now have 5 games now over 24 days, inc. the Brighton match. We will still have a better idea where we stand on Oct.18th.

Sept.28th, 10 Games, 22 Points, +4GD, TOTT and Moving Forward A game of two totally different halves vs Cheltenham, for both teams. We attacked and threatened them all first half and were unlucky to not go in with at least a couple of goals. They must have had the hairdryer treatment because they stormed our end all second half but 10 men in the box defense keep the sheet clean. McLaughlin had a bit of a wobble in the first half and may have had to change his pants at halftime. We now have 4 games in 16 days, inc. the Donny match. Cambridge have fallen back but Northampton and Morecombe will more than test our resolve at the back. COYB!!

Oct.3rd, 11 Games, 22 Points, +2GD, 2nd Place and Moving Forward
Well the concensus by most was that our efforts against Cambridge were poor, the CM was weaker than usual and that helped the defense to be 'ripped apart' using words used by some. I personally don't think McLaughlin can be blamed for any of the 3 goals.
Some comments from the Burton Mail and some quotes from Gaz.
Gary Rowett says his defence has struggled to deal with pace in recent defeats. We lost a fourth game in five on Friday night and conceded three goals in each of the four defeats, three in League Two and one in the Capital One Cup, "we've struggled to deal with a little bit of pace and movement." "It's a third defeat and I'm not pleased about the way we've been defeated." "We're a good team and we'll come back from it,"
With Callum's injury he'll probably be out for most of the rest of his loan spell. We'll have to bring in cover for his role and with Damo and Jimmy coming back soon-ish (hopefully) we 'should' be back to full strength by the end of October, early November, if the recovery reports on the two are on track.
The next two games will not be easy and I think we'll just have to try and hold on to our current position in the table by playing a 'let's not lose this' game. Again, we'll know more where we stand on Oct. 18th.

Oct.11th, 12 Games, 25 Points, +3GD, 2nd Place and Moving Forward Three points away vs a physical team will do fine, 1 good and 1 great goal for us . Another defensive slip from a set piece setup their goal, if we could remove all of those so far this season we may well be on top not second due to GD. Something for Gaz to work on. From reports I have read it seems Moose was solid at the back again, Matty had a very good game in CM and Blyth did well up front on his own. The one concern that we do have is Stuart Beavons groin injury, he is having a scan on Tuesday so fingers crossed. So the last game in our so-called run of 9 tough matches comes next week vs Morecombe. But things are looking bright again after a worrying run of conceding too many. Looking at yesterdays match highlights vs Wycombe I think the tip is to shoot from range, two goals from over 35 yards. The second one from Joe Jacobson rivals Maccas although it get a deflection on the way, so Macca still gets the nod! www.youtube.com/watch?v=nAWhG1RwlI8&feature=youtu.be

Oct.18th,2014 - 13 Games, 8W 1D 4L, 25 Points, +1GD, 3rd Place
Oct.22nd,2013 - 13 Games, 6W 3D 4L, 21 Points, +2GD, 8th Place
We are a little over 1/4 way through the season. The string of 9 games against 'strong opponents' has ended. With the exception of York the other 8 teams are still within easy reach of the playoff spots. Our record over these 9 games was 5W and 4L, 15pts, -2GD(11-13). Although our GD is concerning the only teams that are out of range in that regard at the moment are the 2 above us in the table, Wycombe and Bury. We are 3rd in table and if we had been offered that on Aug.1st I think we would have happily taken it. So well done The Brewers!!
Concerns at the moment are that Moose, Beavon and Akins are all carrying injuries. Gaz said Akins felt something in his calf on Sat. so was subbed, but hopefully its not serious. Moose and Beavon are a worry though. On the other side Damo is back in the team and getting some playing time, and Jimmy should be ready in 2-3 weeks if he continues to improve.
One thing that is clear to me is how tight the league is, 12 points separate the top 18 teams.
Looking forward to the next 10 games and to see where we are at the midway point in the new year. COYB!!!
