Sad news in the Burton Mail, the death has been reported of Bert (Nobby ) Hadfield , aged 90 .He was a player greatly admired by an earlier generation when the Albion started in 1950 .He was a centre half and team captain and played 271 games for the Albion between 1950 and 1957 .

Nobby was before my time but talking to older fans they all respected him as a tough tackling center half, I used to work at Nestles(as it was then) and some of my colleagues had played with him for Tutbury Hawthorn and all spoke well of him. Further to this I used to have an Albion programme collection with well over 2,000 home matches, many from his playing era and it was obvious the respect he earned from the club and supporters. I may be wrong but I think he played in the 56/57 FA Cup team at Charlton Athletic in the 3rd round. To all intents and purposes and Albion legend. Great respect from myself and my thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.

A sad loss but he got a good 90 years in which is pretty good going. Albion legend. Bye Nobby.

Terraceman I don't think Nobby played at Charlton it was after his time, Reg Weston played centre half and was player manager at the time. I was at the match. I have fond memories of Nobby, very good centre half. RIP Nobby.

I believe that there will be a minutes applause in recognition of Nobby Hadfield before tonight's game with the Rams

With the speakers still not working we didn't hear the announcement about the applause for Nobby, suddenly players on the pitch and the referees were clapping so people on the popside joined in a bit late with people round us asking what was going on. On FB people who were behind the goal said a similar thing, they didn't know what was going on until after the match. another embarrassment for the club.
