There's a bit more from Jake on his reasoning re Joe in my bit, though

On seeing that Joe Sbarra had been released my immediate thought was that he was a victim of the changed times brought by Covid-19. I assumed that in any normal close season, given the promise he has shown, at 21 he would have been offered another year's contract and maybe gone out on loan to give him regular game time.
Seems however from Colston's piece he had the option of staying but Jake was honest with him that he could not, obviously, guarantee him a starting place. If that's what he wanted it was a bit naive and unrealistic. Seems like Joe made the decision himself when presented with the facts of football life.
Full marks to Jake for his straightforwardness, and let's hope Joe finds another place in the EFL or at a top National League club. He has great promise, and I suspect, like Marcus Harness, he will get there in the end.

Joe has had the opportunities to earn another contract, but for me he just didn’t take them when given the chance. Always felt he held back and played the easy pass instead of just going for it! Hope he does find another club settles and has a real go at it.
Let’s hope the lads offered new contracts take them up. Quinn is a must for me, best footballer I’ve seen in a Brewers shirt! Hopefully in the current climate nobody has the cash to take Fraser, but I can’t see him staying really 🤞🏻
COYB 👍🏻

Hate to be the detractor, but Colin Daniel? Really?!

Not surprised Joe has been released , he's not pulled up any trees in the last two seasons . I'm sure he will get fixed up with a conference team . Bit surprised Jake has offered terms to Colin Daniel , he was one I expected to be released .

Hate to be the detractor, but Colin Daniel? Really?! Jake doesn't entirely trust Reece Hutchinson? I too am surprised at Daniel's retention too, thought he would have been a definite for the door. Likely to be plenty of left backs to choose from shortly surely?

At one stage there were rumours of a £1m transfer for Joe to Southampton
Around about the same time ish he was stalling on contract talks with Nigel
And we were due to play Man Utd away in a cup match midweek
Story I heard was that Nigel told Joe if he signed the contract we had offered he would start the game against Man Utd. A chance to put himself in the shop window big time etc whilst at the same time ensuring Albion would be in a strong position to negotiate if any club did show solid interest
His agent advised him not to sign the contract and Joe wasn't even on the bench against Man Utd as far as I remember as a result
Anyway those days of 1m transfer fees for him are long gone and good luck to him whatever he does next
Which club out there will be able to guarantee him a starting place?

Just an afterthought - Have we heard if/who out of the academy are getting pro contracts this year?

Not Daniel's biggest fan myself but Jake probably sees him as being quite versatile (can play all down the left or potentially centre back or if desperate up front).

Watching Colin I’ve always thought he could play CB rather than full back. He’s actually good at heading the ball and quite physical. I’d then play Reece in the left full back position. One problem with Colin is if he doesn’t play then his fitness goes quite quickly!

I can't find a link re the academy players who got pro contracts but I seem to remember Tom Hewlett (striker) and Tom Armitage (full back) were 2 of the 3
It was definitely announced somewhere?

Just to get myself shot down.....I don't think Colin Daniel gets noticed when he plays well - he has created quite a few goals with a decent cross. Sure, he has made a few mistakes; I think he's the crowd's new Andy Corbett figure - the scapegoat. I was impressed with him to begin with but then I admit his performances dropped off. Maybe Bucko will use him differently from Cloughie. Also, I guess, as a fellow defender, Bucko knows him a bit better and has got his own ideas. Versatility is now going to be key down in the lower leagues. I'm really hoping Keiran Wallace signs. Hopefully, if Scott Fraser signs (I know, I know....) that Bucko will use him differently from Mr Clough too....Maybe Bucko can swing him, in this uncertain climate? Who am I kidding? He'll be gone.

What Sinfin said.
I'm no great fan but Daniel is the latest in a long line of scapegoats. People always need one. Craig Dudley, Tom Flanagan, Adam McGurk, Bucko himself. Standing on the Pop side, every time Daniel got something right... silence. I, too, think Bucko will have something else in mind for him (he scored a hat-trick as a striker in the Birmingham Senior Cup!)
Regarding the academy players, I don't feel I'm giving anything away to say that the club held back on the announcement so the lads didn't get lost in the rest of the retained list news. Coming soon...

Might see him with them at the Pirelli next season.tho they had a good win over Boro tonight... www.hulldailymail.co.uk/sport/football/hull-city-scott-fraser-burton-4282684
