I've just read the BBC reports on it all and looked at the League One Table, cos I can't remember who is where.
Burton Albion are 12th. Teams below us: Blackpool - big club - ex Premier League! Bristol Rovers - big club! Lincoln City - big club! Shrewsbury Town - big club! etc
I include myself in this: when we drew against Bolton, it was the end of the world, wasn't it?
As Brucey used to say, didn't we do well?
A bit of perspective here, I think. I don't mean Covid; I mean WE WERE TWELFTH IN LEAGUE ONE!!!!!!

He somehow built a squad capable of pushing top 6 on a shoestring and we "blew it". I don't mean that harshly either. I know the league table doesn't lie but look at the teams above us and tell me how many of them were comfortably better than us, or indeed played better football. I think we've under achieved. Albeit 12th in League One is a position I'd be happy to see Bucko somehow maintain for the next 3 seasons.

While, as you say, I'll also not be unhappy with the so-called "mid table mediocrity" of a League 1 mid-table finish for the next 3 seasons... I think our team was capable of getting into the play-offs this season... I think too, as you say, NC will be disappointed we didn't make top 6, some silly errors, lack of concentration, injuries, lack of depth/ability in one or two areas...dropped points which left us too far off... I wonder if this played any part in his decision to go....?? I've read speculation that he would have gone before the start of next season without covid19... I guess he and the Chairman are far too discreet to ever reveal their "what if it hadn't happened" thoughts..... so we'll never know....

As Brucey used to say, didn't we do well? A bit of perspective here, I think. I don't mean Covid; I mean WE WERE TWELFTH IN LEAGUE ONE!!!!!! I agree with this. I think the squads of the last two seasons have been two of the best we have seen at the Pirelli, certainly comparable to the first year in the Championship squad and certainly better than the second year. I agree that Nigel would probably have felt frustrated that we could have been so close to challenging at the top of this league only to see some of the best players drift away to the bigger clubs of the division and Boyce and Fraser's actual and proposed depatures derailing this seasons push. I have read talk in the last few days of Nigel and Ben's relationship not being as close as it once was and just wonder whether there was a difference of opinion in how far we pushed things in trying to kick on. Maybe Nigel wanted us to gamble a little bit but Ben didn't want to give the dwindling crowds and this would have made Nigel think i've taken this as far as I can. Might be wrong but you could understand if that was the case. I bet Nige is disappointed. He somehow built a squad capable of pushing top 6 on a shoestring and we "blew it".
