Ive not seen that picture at Wellington Street before. At first glance I thought it must be Eton Park Popside, but then the Derby Road end should have been uncovered. It never occurred to me that there were covered terraces at Wellington Street. I really wish there was more left of the old Burton grounds - I suppose Peel Croft is still standing (just).

Thanks for the articles Colston, great writing and greatly appreciated. That is a wonderful picture of the training session at one of the previous grounds. Proper old school lower league stadium architecture. A thing of beauty in its own way.

Peel Croft... just. Saw the club post asking for helpers this weekend to get the last of their stuff out of there before handing over to Lidl. So I guess not for much longer.

What a crying shame, a big part of the history of Burton.

Oh that's bleedin' awful. I was once in a band in Burton and our best gig was there. I was so hammered I barely remember it. Happy days.

The 600 seater stand at Peel Croft was built in 1907 after the other was destroyed by fire. Sadly by then we had been voted out of the league and it never hosted a Football League game. The terracing remains the same from Burton United days too. Also I didn’t realise that United merged with Burton All Saints and that club became Burton Town in 1924. So in actual fact we have a timeline and link between Burton Swifts formed in 1871 (original members of Football League Division 2 in 1892) right through to WW2 when football was suspended in England, with Burton Albion emerging to replace them in 1950 after the war. A gap of only 5 seasons. Personally I’d like to see us use that history more.

We might as well; Many of those that have gone bust and / or previously gone out of existence all pretend they are the same club as their historical ancestor clubs.

That was a very good read. Thank you CC. Bertie Mee. I never knew that he had a club association.

I've been like that after many Burton Albion games after several Halcyon Daze at the Cottage, even the 0-0 games
