According to a report in yesterdays Sun (I know there will be people poo pooing it because it is in The Sun) , but Ben Robinson has put all the players on furlough . It was quite a lengthy article not a little paragraph in the corner of the paper . It would seem the players are not very happy , to put it mildly .And something I have been told from a different source should the season re-start we could be playing all academy players as the first teamers might decide they are not playing due to break in there contract agreement .How true that is I don't know .

The players would be even less happy if the club went bust and they got bugger all.

As I understand it under the Govt scheme......it will pay employers 80% of salary up to £2500 and there's nothing to stop the club making up the rest... Why wouldn't Ben take advantage of the scheme like any other employer? We don't have Premier League riches... or am I missing something...?

The £2500 is a month ,most of the players I would think will be on possibly £1000/2000 a week some players possibly more .

I cannot see how the club could afford to There's an article on BBC news website right now saying we could lose entire leagues let alone clubs depending on how long this goes on for I've also read today how being 2 metres apart may be the way of the world for many years now How can sport deal with that? No more crowds at sport as we know them The players may well be upset But football may never be the same again

Can't help but recall the famous Bill Shankley quote... "Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I don't like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that." Of course Bill was just expressing his passion for football and wouldn't have imagined the circumstances we find ourselves in in 2020 and to my recollection too decent a man to have expressed himself in such a way when we're in the middle of a pandemic and so many people are dying through innocently and unknowingly catching coronavirus from simply being in the presence of innocently and often unknowingly infected others......

Yes everard i remember that quote well from the great Bill Shankly.
Of course he wouldn't have said that in these horrific times we are going through at present.
We all love our football and yes it is an important part of our lives but the safety of our fellow fans, family and all mankind is far more important.

If Bill had been in charge of the country over the last 10 years, we would have been better prepared.

Football has become totally and utterly irrelevant and insignificant as far as I am concerned. Millions of paid employees are being furloughed or worse and footballers are just that, paid employees.

Football is (once again) making me sick. DCFC the latest to furlough non-playing staff while the talentless morons who can't even get into the play-offs are still on tens of thousands a week. (Use whiny voice...."It's only a short career...)
As I've said before, once Nigel leaves, so do I.
PS My favourite Bill Shankly quote is "I want to die a fit man." On the surface it looks like a daft comment but if you think about it....

As someone who literally wakes up for football, this break is affecting me badly.
I'm usually very supportive of our players but if they're pissed off then let them piss off.
I'm more concerned for "standard" employees, people like Ash, Richard in the media dept.
People like Jody in the ticket office and people like Matt Hancock and his team in the BACT.
Ben has to put the long term future of the club first. I recently found out how much of his own money he put in last season and it wasn't loose change.
He'll have thought long and hard about this and if he's made that decision he has my 100% support.

When you think of the money Morriss has wasted and when you think of how much the (alleged) criminal Rush and the fraud Clement cost him, he clearly has no moral compass. The way he great Keogh, despite his stupidity already showed me what kind of man he is. I expect this post will somehow make its way to the Derby forum. Hello lads, I stand by my point, he's turned you back into a club it's easy for me to dislike immensely. He's the polar opposite to Rooney who has gone up in my estimations lately.

Any reason why Burton were singled out? From what I've read most if not all of league 1 and 2 have done the same. Can't see why we'd be any different.

I'm not sure if other league 1 & 2 have furloughed players , can't say I have seen it anywhere , clubs have furloughed non playing staff. I would have thought the likes of Accrington would have furloughed players but not seen anything .

For many, many years I have mourned the loss of the game being played on the pitch that I grew up with. I emphasise 'the game being played on the pitch' because off the pitch there were some horrific moments. Bradford, Heysel, Hillsborough, overt racism and horrific violence to name but a few.
In football the gulf between the haves and the have nots continues to grow every year. It makes a mockery of the top 2 leagues in the pyramid. Leagues 1 and 2 are still on quite a level playing field in my opinion. I thought that the only way that things might change in the future is if the TV companies pulled out. I was wrong. The unforeseeable has happened (though TV money is obviously part of the equation here).
Maybe the game will be better after this. A rip it all up and start again approach foist upon it. Let's be honest, the game was / is in a dreadful state really. Most clubs living way beyond their means, some obscenely wealthy clubs, many lower league clubs living on the brink of liquidation, many ridiculously overpaid players, mercenaries, agents, young talent being stifled, expensive ticket prices and so on.
My deepest sympathies are with those who have lost loved ones and those battling for their lives right now. I think of all the Key Workers still out there working each and every day and selflessly taking risks with their own lives for the benefit of others. Football clubs and football players don't register at all on my sympathy or thoughts radar.

Eloquent, brilliant and as close to beautiful as you can get for a post on a football forum. Absolutely nailed it.

I would have thought the likes of Accrington would have furloughed players but not seen anything . There is a great thread from Andy Holt (Accy chairman) on Twitter. I think he has furloughed just about everyone. I don't agree with everything Andy says or does, but he appears to be honest open, frank and realistic. The facts he pointed out at League One level are startling. Oh and one of the first things he did was offer a refund to all season ticket holders for the unplayed games this season. Someone asked him how many had taken up the offer. He didn't know but said he would find out. Apparently £800 in refunds that included single ticket holders for the postponed Pompey game. Seems many people, supporters see a bigger picture too.
