I thought it was worth an attempt, with the forbearance of Norah to enter a fresh option for pre match drinks this season. I hope you will allow this on the main board Norah, it is about Burton Albion… (ish)
There are a number of excellent places to partake in a beverage pre game, the redoubtable Derby inn, now under new ownership, the Great Northern and the Beech Inn (the latter two attracting away fans) and of course some of the excellent 'in town' choices, the Old Cottage, the Roebuck, Devonshire and the Coopers, not to mention the Prince Alfred.
Can I enter a fresh option this year? I am Chairman of Stretton Social Club. For those that do not know where it is, it is at the bottom of Beech Lane in Stretton adjacent to the canal and Kingsmead. It has an excellent car park and is in easy walking distance (8mins) to the home turnstiles (when the new estate on Pirelli car park is established there will be an even shorter route to the ground).
We are a family friendly social club and have been part of the village in it's current form since 1951 (just after the Brewers) although we were originally formed as a Labour club just after the war. We are steadily modernising the place, developing the membership base and putting on more events and entertainment for all of the family.
We have pool, darts and dominoes and recently we have installed BT Sports so pre game premiership matches will be available in 50 inch HD quality.
Prices are, as you would expect, very reasonable - just £2.80 for Pedigree and Carling and the same for the regular guest ale that we have in. New members are always welcome as are Albion fans pre game. Why not come on down, park up have a couple of pints, wander to the game?
No need to join on your first couple of visits, but we do have an offer on membership at the moment of join for the rest of the year now (£5 single) and get a free drink!!!
Hope to see some of you there for the pre season games and the match v Scunthorpe. I will happily shake your hand and welcome you to a community asset which is well worth supporting and preserving. That definitely includes you Peacock, it is about time we shook hands and moved on. I'll even by you a pint..
