particularly if Derby continue to implode and struggle next term They've not won in 5, but they're still 5th in the league and one of the top teams in the Championship. I'm not sure you can call that a continued implosion!

With regards to coverage on BBC local news. I don't think Burton Albion gets coverage in either East or West Midlands programmes. Some TV aerials in Burton are directed towards Sutton Coldfield, which is West Midlands and some are directed towards the Nottinghamshire/Leicestershire transmitters, which is obviously East Midlands; I'm not sure whether Sky channel 101 (BBC) transmits East Midlands Today or West Midlands Today in Burton. However, whenever BBC East Midlands advertises a programme on Radio Derby with the logo that includes town names, Burton is there.

The BBC West Midlands does cover Burton Albion, but not to a great extent. Another thing about local radio just touched on is that Radio Derby covers Derby and Burton (East Staffs). However when BBC West Midlands list their local Radio stations they fail to list Radio Derby (which covers Burton), because it is Radio Derby and outside the West Midlands area. So again being on a border we lose out. In my opinion they should cover the Midlands as one unit, but give more air time for the enlarged area. However, looking at positives concerning publicity for the Brewers, we have excellent Burton Mail coverage via our daily paper, which very many league clubs no longer have, and Radio Derby just cover in depth the Brewers and Derby, which also give us good publicity. Quite often people like to have a go at the Burton Mail, but I am sure we are well represented and are among the lucky smaller clubs.

Whatever you want to call it then, they look unlikely to make automatic promotion, will only have a 25% chance in the play offs and are by no means certain of even achieving a play off place. Just my opinion but the worse Derby do the better it is for us.

You are certainly correct about the excellent coverage from Radio Derby. In comparison, Radio Sheffield covers, Sheffield Wednesday, Barnsley, Rotherham, and Chesterfield. They also cover Sheffield's third best team led by someone called Clough but I daren't mention their name. The chances of getting live commentary are really limited when the best team in Sheffield and the third best are playing, yet we get live commentary every game. Also, to be fair I think the new lad Joe Shenahan (?), has done really well, it is great to have a regular commentator, as they begin to know the team. Tony Bentley is very good too.

Historically Burton has always been on the border of East and West midlands and never quite sure of its identity, its also borderline north and south, hence the club having previously played in the Birmingham league, Southern league and Northern Premier league. I lived in my early years in Wolverhampton(which was in Staffordshire in those days), Burton on Trent and for a short period in Stoke on Trent. I always thought we fitted in better in the NPL, but then again my accent and outlook is very much northern orientated due to friends, family and social life. Having lived in the West Midlands and North Staffs we certainly don't belong in either and have more in common with Derby and the east midlands. Radio wise I think they have it right with our coverage and TV wise I feel we would be better served in the same way. I get West Midlands news which drives me potty as it very rarely includes anything about where I live.(paying a licence fee for that too !) Good points funky and claymillman. Just to add a lighter note I've seen football programmes, news articles and even the BBC refer to Burton on Trent, Derbyshire but the funniest mention was on our 1st visit to Bradford City when the home fans sang a derogatory song about Derbyshire then after much amusement among the Albion fans we replied with Staffordshire la la la and totally confused them !

You know where it is! in exactly the same place as Burton upon Trent, but very few people, including myself use the UP anymore.

Interesting, I googled 'real name of burton on trent' and got hits for burton on trent, burton-on-trent, burton-upon-trent but not for burton upon trent. I'm sure it's there though if you drill down into the search results.

Many years ago' when I worked at the council, Councillor Diana Brown (Conservative, Hanbury), explained in her unique way that it was Burton upon Tent, no hyphens, no capitalisation of the 'upon'. You didn't mess with Councillor Brown,me specially when she was right!!! :-)

I would just like to echo Echo Funky's praise for our Radio Derby commentary team. They do a very good job for us.

Personally not being a local in Burton upon Trent I think the biggest problem is that the place itself isn't a destination for people to visit
Does anyone who doesn't live in the place really care about what's going on there?
I'm being brutally honest

I'm being brutally honest I think you are right, but I also think it is totally irrelevant. Lots of football clubs are in places the general public don't visit. The lucky ones are holiday resort clubs (both inland or coastal), such as Bournemouth, Blackpool, (which helps Fleetwood), and York,(although they still struggle). I ask you, who goes to Barnsley, or Oldham, Stoke, Walsall, Dagenham, Rotherham etc., (I could go on), for any other reason than business?

Burton isn't a great place to visit in general but we are one of the most popular away days in league two due to the ease in which you can get to us, the pubs, the price of admission, the view from the terrace/stand, the atmosphere that can be generated in that away terrace and the fact that away supporters know that outside the ground it's a totally non threatening environmnent. I know from reading on another message board that a lot of league one clubs want us up because of all that lot.
If away supporters love the Pirelli so much then why aren't the locals interested? It goes back to the percentages I think. We're doing very well with what we've got. It's just an uphill task now trying to persuade the apathetic portion of the Burton public that something good is happening at the Pirelli.
At the end of the day I think that's literally all it comes down to. The people that want to come to games here turn up. The people that don't want to come aren't fussed about Burton Albion and would rather watch Sky. We're in a television age and people are conditioned to think that "real" football only happens on TV.
