Wow Frogmanny. Another post where you can’t help but swear or slag off Jake. Hardly a reliable poster. Dyer returning as player/coach? Max Bird? Cleetus -I agree we need to get some younger blood in the defence but Jake is not the main issue. We are failing, as a whole team, to defend our goal well enough. 😂😂 dyer came back I went bolton as well you seem so proud to have gone to a game Buxton cost us the first goal at bolton Nartey would’ve gone to him but he kept backing off til he had a shot Been to a game? I am at every game. The reason why Nartey could not come across to cover was because when Lucas has his shot cleared off the line, Brayford was on the edge of their box. When they broke they had a man on their left trying to support the lad on the right streaking away with the ball. Had Nartey come across, he would have been totally unmarked. Yes, Jake backed off. Couldn’t commit to a tackle but to be fair it was one hell of a hit to beat Kieran from where he hit it.

Andrewb77 I personally do think Brayford is nearing the end of his career unfortunately, again picks up lots of injuries and is 32 likewise Daniel 32. The system we play also exposes the full backs somewhat but what do I know eh cbh 😂

I think whatever any off us think of Jake he deserves our respect as somebody who has given his all for us in two different spells and has been influential on and off the pitch. For that he deserves respect.
However, in the last four games we have conceded eleven goals and Jake, as captain, centre back and senior defender, has to shoulder some of the blame for this. A lot of the goals we are conceding are down to real poor defensive play where routine crosses, corners etc. Into our box are just not being dealt with. A real top defensive team even at our level would not concede the types of goals we are conceding and for that Jake has to take some, but not all, of the blame.
Today was a prime example. First goal, long throw not dealt with. Second goal, no block on the cross and a free header from six yards. Third goal, their centre half heads in a corner. All very routine.
I understand that we all defend as a team and attack as a team but the fact is that the teams that concede the most goals generally have poor defences and teams that score lots of goals have decent forwards. I think Nigel recognises this and it looks, although nothing has been confirmed by the club, that there is a centre back on the way from Leeds. Looks like he has some experience, albeit not at this level, is twenty three and if all goes well will sign permanently in the summer.
Going back to Jake I think he will be used sparingly for the rest of the season especially if the new bloke gets up to speed and he will not be offered a contract at the end of the season. Same goes for Brayford as well I think. Great servants but age and injuries catching up with them.

The system we play also exposes the full backs somewhat but what do I know eh cbh 😂 Brayford, to be fair, has done ok fitness wise generally. I get the impression that the plan was to groom Ben Fox as a potential successor but his ACL injury put paid t9 that as he is still, I guess 6-8 weeks away from being fit to be available. I can see Bray getting another one year deal this summer with Ben as cover. Daniel may be 32 next month but seems to have pretty good natural fitness levels so I think his future will come down to whether NC sees Reece as number one left back next season or Colin. Our centre midfield tends to play quite narrow, potentially exposing the full backs but more often than not Lucas and Sarkic drop back from wide to support and try to protect their FB as does Temps a lot to be fair. I have no problem with opinions but when people are commenting based on pre-conceived, blinkered, views especially when not even watching the games they lose a lot of credibility.

This topic has made me Google it, and its absolutely crazy that Christiano Ronaldo is 34... Can we sign him 😁 Ronaldo is a one off Ronaldo is fitter than ever at the age of 34. He will likely be able to play til he's 40. Albeit in US or China etc at the end of his career. Hes lived such a disciplined life with diet, training and focus etc. Imagine the extra income he's going to earn on top of what he's already earnt extending his career through the focus and desire he's shown to do the right things at the right time. Someone told me he has a regime where he wakes up at 3am every morning to have a 20 minute ice bath before going back to sleep again!! Personal chefs. 6 small meals a day of the right foods etc etc etc etc. The very best of sports science and the money and lifestyle to make it all happen. But most importantly the desire to make it all happen Vast majority of players are amateurs in comparison through no fault of their own. He's set the standard on the way to be a professional footballer at the highest level Ronaldo may be 34 - he's more like 28

I feel for Jake, he’s clearly not the same player he was a few years ago but he hasn’t done too much wrong since our relegation season in the Championship.
He’s played far too much football recently and looked shattered yesterday but it’s not his fault O’Toole picked up a ban and missed six games.

Here we go Our defence is woeful, and all we get is we defend from the front, and players not doing their jobs properly. i accept that quality players we cannot afford, Good players we cannot keep.Forget the championship we are competing at a level beyond the financial remit of the club, and the fan base is small. We have played 23 games lost any worth while income from the F_A cup,and went out in a whimper with the away fans wanting to play us every week and having a great time, while our heroes looked dazed. doing what we fail to deliver scoring from a corner.Jake Buxton on leaving Burton Albion had to face a barrage of abuse at Derby coming from non-league and left a legend.in 2016/ where.he has my ultimate respect during his career,Since leaving Derby he got relegated with Wigan to league 1, where he joined Burton Albion he thought of retiring but Clough encouraged him to carry on.Looking at the defence age and fitness is a issue. Buxton struggles with pace and leaves the goal exposed. Brayford also has lost a yrd and injury restricts his game. Nartey suffers physically and is a academy player learning his trade, but is the only one with pace. Daniel defending is a accident waiting to happen, and against Northhampton from good positions 3 crosses on the trot did not beat the first man , so no it is not just Buxton, the whole lot are a shambles, and here is OToole learning to defend, when he can stay on the pitch. 14th in the table no cash [players not doing there job or [ players not capable of doing there job] 3 points from top spots. could go either way, nows the time for soul searching. Some one must command the defence and so far it is hit and miss

Here is how i see it,problem a ageing defence 5 and out of 5 never played above Championship level Brayford Buxton way past 30 and injury prone both lost a yrd of pace. Daniel and O"Toole lower league journey men and it shows again over 30 O"Toole no pace or discipline , Daniel x lower league winger and a excuse for a full back. Quinn is a excellent holding mid field, and Wallace also, so we concentrate on back 4. One experienced central defender the best money can afford, Nartey plus 3 more 6ft young defenders, using our own scouting system and we have the loan market Youth with age works 2 defensive in midfield 1 top experience central defender and we have the centre ground covered, 1 Nartey plus 2 young full backs and we should have height and pace. How can you get worse than 11 con seeded in 4 games

How can you get worse than 11 con seeded in 4 games Easy, concede 11 in four games and lose them all instead of winning two and losing two.

Surely the future at full back anyway is Hurtchinson at LB and Ben Fox (when back fit) at RB. Both academy products who cost zero. Also Wallace has done a pretty good job at CB in the past. Suddenly the average age has dropped considerably. We have had success before moving a midfielder back there (Mous, Naylor). Just need a good decent experienced CB, someone along the lines of Ian Sharps or Big Ben IMO.

Derby have Clarke in at CB from Brighton who looks a good player for them. Be good if we could get a championship player in who is looking to get some games in.

It’s stated we needed the win money which is correct, but would it have been used to strengthen the squad, doubtful as it hasn’t before eg the Man City ties, sale of Irvine, Allen, Lund & Harness, etc

Let's hope that if we do sell Boyce, we can reinvest the transfer fee on some new defenders to freshen things up. I've accepted we are a selling club anyway. I think I am more gutted at the lack do 150k prize money than I am losing to Northampton.
