We should definitely sell him because of the imminent end to his contract. Without any concrete evidence to support this statement as it is only my opinion, I don't think he intends to sign a new contract if it is offered.

He might decline a transfer and take the risk of running his contract down to get a bigger signing on fee from his next club

I feel he is a decent bloke though and won't block a move on January hoping he will get a better wage deal as a free agent. Thanks for all you have done for us Liam - at times you have looked like a world beater, just not the volume of goals we hoped for.

The official statement from NC.....
"Clough also gave an update on interest in Liam Boyce and Scott Fraser.
He said: “We have had interest from a few clubs in Liam leading up to the window opening. Him and Scott Fraser are the two and we are in the process of trying to sort out contract offers for them in the next few days and we will take it from there.
“We are mindful that both players can leave on a free in the summer. If they sign new deals, then brilliant, if they don’t, we will look at offers.
“We want to try and keep them if we can, but we know the limitations that we have in trying to do that.”

A few months ago I reckon plenty of our fans would say they wouldn’t miss him too much if he left but I think his performances in recent weeks have shown exactly how good he can be on his day. A win on Sunday means we’d receive more than £100k in prize money and I wonder how much a win would improve our chances of keeping Boyce and Fraser.

He's got that playing style that probably deceives some. I've watched him closely and he certainly gives his all every match and most definitely takes loads of whacks and knocks but bounces straight back again. Surprisingly he's had very few injuries apart from the one at the start of his time with us, pretty good really for saying the stick he takes from defenders. Sometimes he is a bit wild with his shooting but aren't they all even multi million pound strikers. I say NC do your very best to keep him along with Fraser.

In the end his agent will try and do the best he can for Liam and NC will do the best he can for the club He's 28 now. Running out of time to make any serious life changing money from football. So I don't blame him looking after himself - whatever that ends up being tbh He will be a long time retired

Hearts are the only club who have been linked as far as I can see and they are not that an attractive proposition at the moment with them propping up the league table. Not sure how much more they could offer him money wise and wouldn't be a great career move in my opinion.

Observer hits the nail on the head. Liam is 28, it's a short career, he has a young family. He has to do the best for himself in the next five years, whether that is with us (it could be) or not. Either way, we can't blame him for the choice he makes. Whatever happens, I don't think he has let us down and, this season, we are seeing a 20-goal striker in action. Everyone wants a 20-goal striker... doesn't mean a goal every week to get that. He has four in four at the moment and they're proper striker's goals.

Just seen a tweet from reasonably respected journalist Alan Nixon who says " Sunderland starting to get serious about Boyce from Burton".
I would not be surprised if this transfer happened especially as Sunderland as the biggest team in our league have a shocking recruitment policy and can't seem to see any further than players who play well against them. Portsmouth are the same and that's why both teams are languishing at the levels they are.
For us, if Boyce is to go, I think going somewhere like Sunderland would be good as they are likely to pay an overinflated fee given their permanent state of desperation and I could see us getting close to what we paid for him, £500k was it?
Be interesting to see if this one happens.

Losing our players to fellow league 1 clubs makes my blood boil, when we have offered them a contract, but we cannot compete financially in league 1. Looking for comfort some clubs have Championship credentials stadium fan base finances, and Sunderland comes under this criteria. While we try to be competitive in league 1

If they want to pay silly money (hope so) for any player then away they can go, especially if they want away. We are a selling club if there's any other way to describe us, many clubs like us do the same to make ends meet, got to.
Now if it was another club with a similar financial standing I'd be worried why they want away. NC never stands in any players way it seems, it wouldn't make sense that way for the manager/player relationship. I just hope if they go it's worth it for us.

I think we can safely assume that if Sunderland want him they will be offering him more in wages than he is on now so he would be highly unlikely to stay with us. On that basis I would be trying to screw Sunderland for every last penny given that they want promotion this season and need Liam now rather than waiting until the end of the season when they can get him for free. It sounds like other teams have made enquiries so we need to start playing these clubs off against each other.
My hope is that Ben, Nigel and the team have the negotiation skills to use this to the maximum advantage rather than just rolling over and having our tummies tickled by the big boys of the division and accepting their first offer which will no doubt be derisory.

Sunderland are up for sale, it would be a surprise if they were to spend money whilst on the market.

Sunderland are up for sale, it would be a surprise if they were to spend money whilst on the market. I saw an interview with their owner Stuart Donald yesterday who said that they would be strengthening in January despite being up for sale which surprised me a little and made me think whether they would be in for Boyce and maybe even Fraser. It seems that is the case, with Boyce at least.

Excellent comments made above about Sunderland and their tendency to throw money about a bit and that if we were to get a good deal, it would probably be with them.
I think that the Marcus Harness transfer fee shows that our club has the backbone to stand up for itself. To my mind that was daylight robbery (on our part).
I personally don't see Boyce ever being a much feared striker in the lower leagues - whether with us or anyone else. A good, talented and intelligent footballer but not what every club in our league seeks - a lethal marksman who bangs in lots of goals and gets the club promoted. I don't think he would do what Sunderland wants.
