Some point over the next couple of times you interview NC could you ask if there's any update on the situation of the key players who will be out of contract in the summer and free to negotiate with other clubs from January?
Thinking specifically of Fraser and Boyce but I'm fairly sure due to the nature of the deals we offer, there will be more in a similar position.
Will we need to consider proactively looking to sell any player who won't extend in January?

Broomo,
I know it was aimed at Colston but just to point out, in case you weren’t aware....players are only free to talk pre-contracts in January if they are looking to move to another country. If they are moving within the same country they can only talk within the last month of their contract.
The six month thing will only apply if they are looking to move back to Scotland or play ‘non-domestically’

Gives us a bit of time to see where which division we're in. I suspect and hope we at least try to get them extended before going into that last month though. Would be gutted to see either of them leave on a free. A good cup run wouldn't do any harm, swell the coffers.

That's ok mate. A lot of people are under the impression that players can talk to anybody they want from January when in reality it is only non-domestically that they can do that. Of course none of us are naïve enough to think that behind the scenes, I am sure, agents are at play trying to line things up well ahead of time etc.
Agents will also be in their clients ears either advising them to sign or hold off on signing as well so as much we will be trying to persuade the players to sign it may well be a case of being able to lead them to water but the agents telling them not to drink (because they cant think for themselves!)
Certainly a good cup run helped us last year with things like Lucas' contract extension, same with Quinny and one or two others. It would be great to do the same again this year. We have a number of senior players out of contract in the summer. Would be nice to tie one or two down early again if the finances are there to do it. Scotty and Boycey must be at the top of that list if possible.

Yes, as per my second post, with agents involved etc I am sure there are ways and means around it.

Certainly a wake up call for our finances, if we continue with small gates at one point could lose to many first team players, even with cup runs we have to really progress to the late stages if we are to make money. top half league 1 is a big ask year on year, Next home match Southend could be interesting. Boyce=Templeton=Quinn=Buxton=Brayford=Sarkic=O"Hara=Broadhead=Nartley. 9 of our first team squad ,Even Nigel would struggle with that. players we want leaving will always be a problem for any manager, and this level of football will take a big ask for any Burton Albion manager. And though he has not played a major role yet, i would miss Sbarra

Agents will also be in their clients ears ... telling them not to drink... Sorry mate.... couldn't resist the edit in the light of recent events elsewhere Broomo, yes, we'll ask but I suspect the answer will be the usual... "there have been a few chats but we've got xx games in the next few weeks..." People often ask about the contracts situation... everything tends to work out fine in the end.

I may be wrong but I get the impression Scott trusts Nigel to do what's right for his career. There's enough evidence already to show he won't stand in a players way if the move is a step up for them. Marcus H being a prime example. I remember when the Bray was considering a move from Derby to Cardiff, as much as Nigel wanted him to stay, I believe he advised him to take the opportunity to join a Premier League club as it may not come around twice. I am biased but I honestly believe Nigel usually puts the players interests very high on his list. Probably comes down to the way his transfer from Forest to Liverpool was handled. If the player is loyal to Nigel and the club, he'll be loyal back. I hope Scotty signs an extension, even if it's just to make sure we remove, or increase any minimum fee release clause that may be there.

I read a tweet from an anonymous person trying to make out he is an agent of some sort suggesting Cardiff were interested. The tweeter has a punt on about 10 players a day who have been playing well. He used a picture of Scott in a Dundee shirt (and was probably not authorised to nick that picture either). This is not me stating categorically that Cardiff are not interested (I don't know) but it does always amaze me how a tweet from an anonymous person is taken as "must be true" by some who tend to think the legitimate news sources aren't reliable. Herb Croken (I don't know whether or not he is on here in some guise these days) posted "that's Scotty gone then" as if the transfer had been announced by both clubs, not merely tweeted by someone unnamed who he doesn't know! Rant over!

Rant over! Fair points and I should know better than most not to take internet rumours seriously. Having said that, I've been saying for 6 months now that if Scott isn't on the radar of all clubs in the Championship then their scouts are missing a trick. If Herb posted that, that usually means it's guaranteed he's staying. I've never seen a bloke get so much wrong about football yet still value his own opinion more than he does.

I always find it easier to look at the past tweeting history of most of these ‘transfer centre/hub’ accounts to see what they have for right or wrong in the past. That particular one doesn’t have the greatest track record to be honest.

Great wee article that! He will go eventually as for me one of our best ever signings. He isnt a tackler but on the ball and vision are certainly Championship standard and great left foot.

Agree tackling isn't his strong point but he did win the ball back to start the move that led to his goal yesterday.

He's not a tackler but he does nick a lot of balls off players toes as he tracks back, He certainly puts a shift in. He's arguably he best we've ever had a driving us forward with the ball at his fee though. Id he had 18 months left he'd be worth 1.5 - 2m easily.

Obviously been working hard on all aspects of his game.
