Gotta be better than when we played them last year at the Kassam (a week or two later) Surely..... Hopefully.... I (and a few others) thought it marked a low point of last season

Oxford had 69% possession and 23 shots to 4 at Bloomfield Road yesterday but Blackpool fans are complaining that Oxford ‘did a Rotherham’ and niggled, cheated, pushed, shoved, pulled shirts, fouled, tripped and generally manipulated a poor referee in any way they could. And still lost 2-1 to a Blackpool side that can get goals under Simon Grayson and are joint top of the table currently as a consequence. So we need to be ready for more niggling and long ball stuff at the Kassam. We need to earn the right to play our football first by competing with teams physically first.

I can't see us having less than 50% possession or fewer shots than Oxford mikey but we shall see. I hope NC and the lads are aware that they might be facing another battle like Saturday.....surely another official can't be as lenient (bad) as Nick Kinsley was on Saturday. He gave out just one yellow to Robertson of Rotherham. At least Darren Drysdale booked 4 Oxford players and 3 Blackpool players

Talking to my Sunderland supporting mate, he said he can't remember a team being set up to be as niggly or as frustrating as Oxford were on the opening day of the season, fouling at the first sign of Sunderland stringing four passes together, now you can put that down to not wanting to lose the first game but I remember Karl Robinson doing exactly the same to us both times we played them last year. I just think that's his style. He's a narky, angry person and that translates to his teams.
Someone mentioned playing JJ in midfield and I wouldn't be against that. We've got a reputation as a football playing side and you can guarantee a lot of managers will be setting their sides up to kick lumps out of us and not let us settle.
We've got a great midfield but let's be honest, none of them are renowned for the physical side of the game and while they can all look after themselves, we've not really got a midfield enforcer. Even Quinny who is our midfield general is more cultured and get it down and play than he is put the boot in.
Going through the whole squad there is only really Bucko and JJ who you would class as "aggressive" and while I don't want us to sacrifice players for cloggers, I do think we lack a bit of a kicker in the middle of the park.
Nige has said he's not looking to bring anyone else in, so he obviously thinks we can get out of the division playing total football. He doesn't get it wrong too often.

The only good aspect of going to that ground is that set price all you eat Chinese buffet nearby which I have sampled a few times. I once strolled the perimeter of the ground pre-kick off about 10 times to try and walk it off.

Wont be at the game, but has my fellow football supporters,Forest n Derby will if they want be watching on the red button on sky,I will be paying £10 on ifollow and grateful to have the chance to see the game, funny how mikeyboy comments that it is cheaper watching the big boys. But lets be grateful for small mercy's [rant over] Oxford Utd 12-500 Kassam Stadium a lot of cash invested in the squad. Carl Robinson the manager offered a new 3 year contract, and like Rotherham waiting to get new signings in. Average attendance 6-959 = 11th in the table on 4 points ,players of note in the current squad=Moore=Cadden=Mackie=Henry=Woodburn, and one of our old favourites=Mousinho. I expect Burton to be a Challenge and a trophy and a carbon copy of Saturday ,only with a baying crowd encouraging them. . Nick Kinsley would be their dream ticket, A week ref ,that a noisy crowd could control, and players could bring the dirty tricks book out,and he would not have a clue Clubs like Oxford ,only double our size are clubs we have to compete with. Coming home with a draw would be a good result.

.....an already tough game tomorrow might have just got a bit tougher..... as the U's have brought in Matty Taylor, striker on loan from Bristol City, scored 19 League One goals in 2016/17 season for Bristol Rovers....but I'm confident Bucko will have him in his pocket...(and anyway he only managed 4 Championship goals in 33 appearances last season....)

I think we should postpone, they have some big nasty players and we have some smaller lads and a few youngsters.
Bolton have shown the way, postpone and we can play them when we have fed the lads on raw meat for a few weeks.

He gave it the one taking the throw, the guilty party was the one feigning to take the throw, who eventually left it and walked away.

Oxford have also signed George Thorne on loan from Derby . I hope he starts. He's barely played league football for near enough 50 years now. Poor lad didn't deserve the injuries he's picked up, undoubtedly a talented player when he was fit but one that I feel was over rated (I'll be in the minority there). I hope he gets himself fit but I think unfortunately for him he's one of those players more likely to break down on his comeback than he is to go on and play half a dozen consecutive games. A little bit like Terry Wilson at Forest under BC, worked his balls off to get back in the pitch but his body couldn't take it. A real shame for George but like I said, I hope he plays tomorrow. He'll be as rusty as hell and too slow to be anything other than a quarterback hopefully spraying the ball. I'd be amazed if he starts the game, I don't rate Robinson as a manager but don't think even he is daft enough to throw Thorne into the deep end like that.

One change .O'Toole out injured , replaced by Wallace . Not a bad change I don't think. Wallace was good. Wasn't Nartey a CB? Wonder why he's not in favour (fitness?)

Great finish from Bucko, you saw him making the run just before diving full length. What a goal Son!!!
I think we're doing ok but we need to get hold of it a bit better in midfield and up front. Boycie is working hard but still needs to do more to make it stick, Broadhead for all he looks threatening needs to keep hold of the ball a bit better.
We look dangerous when we get it down and play, especially down the left. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Temps or Sarkic get 30 minutes out wide to see if either can be a bit more dangerous. Nathan is looking a bit light today if I'm honest.
Not seen a lot of Fraser or Edwards either. Could really do with both of them having a bit more of an influence going forward.
Oxford look as if they've got a goal in them so I think we may need another.
Satisfied but weirdly, don't think we're playing as well as we have.

Just been looking at George Thorne's league appearances, over 10 seasons total 108. Just over half of those played for Derby and he spent a good chunk of his time with them out with that terrible injury, very rusty I'd say. A shame really.

I think Fraser has now had sufficient influence going forwards ! Statto's, last player to score a league hattrick for us? I am struggling to remember one! Edit: Harness vs Rochdale?

Really need to hang on to him... Especially if we are pushing promotion or actually get promoted. Not only is Scotty Fraser very good, but he is consistently very good!
