I remember when Boycie did his knee in pre season and we were all wondering how long he'd be out for, some hopeful it was just going to be a heavy knock and he'd still be fine.
As soon he was given the number 27 shirt I knew he was out for best part of the season and posted as much on here before the extent of his injury was announced.
You just don't give your record signing the 27 when the number 9 was available.
This time around we've given the number 9 to Marcus Harness (doh!). A lot of the other players have reverted to what you would say would be their normal numbers.
I'm probably reading way too much into things and certainly don't want to rain on anyone's parade in the build up to today's game but I'd say Boyce sticking with the 27 indicates we're still expecting someone to come in for him possibly late in the window.
Now Marcus has gone, the number 9 shirt is vacant again. The Hercule Poirot side of me thinks if Boyce doesn't line up as number 9 today, we're bracing ourselves. Talk of him moving has certainly died down in the early interviews from NC but as far as I'm concerned, nothing has changed, he's going into the last year of his contract and we simply can't afford to let than run down so he can leave for nowt. I'd expect us to start actively inviting bids as we get closer to the window closing.
The harsh reality of being Burton Albion I think. We have ti look to move him on and get some of our money back. It's unlikely to be anywhere near the million Bolton offered but even half of that and we've got damned close to our money back.
I hope I'm wrong.
