I wonder is this new streaming itv/BBC channel is the first step to them challenging sky on a pay per view basis?
Make it cheap enough, something less than a fiver an event and they could knock spots off sky.
6 million watching the women's world cup, probably more than that watched the cricket.
Compare it to Sky who get less than a million for Man Utd v Man city.
Sky has had a bit of a monopoly and their prices reflect that. More and more or us are getting marked at the cost of a subscription and the constant add ons.
What sky was never able to do was to get the sheer numbers. 1.8 million subscribers?
The maths doesn't add up, a BBC cheap offering could kill them.

I've subscribed to BT sport via my Virgin Media package over the last few years, it's not a bad price compared to having Sky and all they offer. The last 2 seasons I've also had the Sky sports package via NowTV (the sports season ticket) and shared the cost with a family member. That worked out a good price but I've pulled the plug on that for this season, too much football on our telly, couldn't possibly watch it all if I tried. It's getting overkill now and I guess come this seasons top matches have VAR that in itself extend the match time even further and somewhat spoil the attraction for the armchair fan or does it add to the drama??

I love VAR I must admit.

Returning to the thread, I have decided that the problem lies with the 9 point penalty. For a promotion or staving off relegation, that is a risk worth taking as that penalty is pathetic. I have thought about this and in instances where the 9 point penalty would apply, it should be replaced by demotion to the Conference - regardless of the division the club is in. Steven Pressley is right.
Some might argue that these fly by night owners with out the same lifelong interest in the club as the fans would take that risk and it would be a fair point.
A year and a half ago when Notts County were doing quite well in league 2 I read that they were prepared to pay a player £15,000 a week and were paying £40,000 a month in win bonuses.

I agree, but it seems a bit unfair on the Conference clubs. Still waiting to hear Bolton's penalty for not completing the season.

That said, I imagine most of the Conference clubs would be delighted if a West Ham, Leeds, Bolton or Sunderland joined them for the revenue they would bring and the interest in their league.

To be fair, if they all landed in there in the same season, it would cause a bit of an upset

They have just been talking about Bury and Bolton on Radio 5. Some spoke of how terrible it was that staff weren't being paid. I was washing up and the kettle was boiling but Gary Rowett said something like 'When I was at Burton Albion there were people there working for free, had never been paid, never expected to be paid and did it for the love of their club'.

edited the title of this to add in Bolton (formally). I see Bolton have 7 players signed for tomorrows game so they will be supplemented by youth team players. 15 more players are likely to arrive before the week is out now the takeover has been finalised. 1. Why is the EFL bending over backwards to allow this 2. What is the punishment for not fulfilling fixtures last season 3. Why should (on paper) Wycome get an 'easy game' tomorrow yet the other 23 have to face a full strength Bolton team? 4. As competition organisers they should be seeking a fair competition. www.theboltonnews.co.uk/sport/17807526.efl-chairman-says-will-help-smooth-whites-path-wycombe/Josh Magennis is being given what for now, not paid for several months and exercises an option many would have (and did) exercise ages ago... the-wanderer.co.uk/boards/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=27011Looks like Accy Chairman Andy Holt has deleted his Twitter as well, he has had a spat with Gary Neville about Salford buying there way in and also had a great threadd about the PFA loaning clubs money. In effect he said where were the PFA why Stanley needed money and indeed Stanley would quite happily have an interest free loan from the PFA if they are handing them out ike confetti. I hate the way football is run. And while I am on one, I would make every professional golfer replace their own divots, caddy not allowed. And any pro golfer who's shot heads to the crowd that refuses to shout 'FORE", 6 months in prison.

Couldn’t agree more, clubs like ours get no mention (promoted to Championship with a £20k transfer record) yet the likes of Salford are celebrated as some sort of “David vs Goliath” good news story! Sustainability is an unfashionable quality in football, it’s wrong.

I haven’t played golf this year but will be returning to the course on Thursday this week, the divots will be John Daly dinner plate sized and there will be a lot of FORE shouts right from the off!

It's a joke.
Clubs just spend spend spend and expect to never suffer any consequences.
Look at Villa ffs. Their NET spend is £134m on players for this season!
Yeah they got promoted to the premier league, but surely they aren't in receipt of that much money? They were on the brink of a financial crisis only a short while ago... Now they've spent more than any Premier league club.

Do the PFA expect to get their loan back from Bolton? Do they have a moneylenders licence or are they just upmarket loan sharks? Have they put a proper repayment plan in place or are they just living in hope? What will they do if Bolton don't repay?

“So the next time you think about complaining that your chairman isn’t spending enough, or that your manager isn’t playing exciting enough football, spare a thought for fans of clubs like ours that simply want to watch our local team play on a Saturday afternoon. With Bolton and Coventry also on life support and many others on the brink of collapse, this is a problem that isn’t going away” Read more at www.fourfourtwo.com/features/final-week-bury-fc-how-my-club-came-brink-extinction#Koqlq8qxcw4FbXuH.99

This is farcical. This is no way to run a competition, when teams pick and choose who and when to play. Sorry but the EFL needs to step up and eject Bolton and Bury. Bury have no had 4 or is 5 games postponed? Their next game is likely to be postponed even if they meet the financial criteria by Friday We are due to play Bolton on 12th October. If a takeover has taken place by then and they have a team full of highly paid imports, is that fair compared with the team they put out at Tranmere? The EFL is a joke. I don't see the point in going anymore.
