League 1 for many clubs is a gateway to a league were some big clubs spend millions and can propel big gates . Burton Albion can just about tread water, and fans getting exited about getting peanuts for our players, and the amount of players that jump ship. Puts the effort our management have to put in, there for everyone to see. The good news is we will see a few x players next season again ,Lets pretend like some of our more delusional fans we a normal club with a fan base, With Boyce being in is last year we would offer him a new contract, If not excepted we would look to January to transfer him ,£500-000 pounds even to clubs in league 1,is not a lot of money. Our club is not non=league, only the fan base.Which makes signing quality player impossible, and keeping quality players impossible. For most of us,the only quality we have is the manager. And success is where we are.old guns and building from the academy.

The more I think about it, that is a ridiculous transfer fee (in our favour). If in a couple of years Marcus is being spoken of as 'the new Gareth Bale', please could someone alert me to my comment today and I shall put the oven on and cook some Humble Pie.

If he’d gone a year ago for £10K or on a free transfer to a National League Club no one would have batted an eyelid. In fact there were postings on here and quotes from Port Vale laughing at us that we believed Marcus could be a key player for us. Luckily for us Nigel and his team can spot a player.

They’re buying potential only... ultimately he has done nothing for us on a sustained basis — he’s demonstrated some good moments but that’s as far as it’s gone. Wish him all the best I really do and will certainly look out for him with good sentiment as with many who’ve moved on but if we’ve got anything beyond say a few hundred £k I’m just so impressed from a business perspective because he was worth £Nil by my reckoning only a few months ago.

Maybe their eye for potential just has money.
Our manager has seen the potential over the past few seasons, and been criticised for it.
(Apologies to Jacob Rees-Mogg for that erroneous comma).

Don't worry Ian Mcgibbon Esq., I am sure Jacob Rees-Mogg, Esq., MP will be more upset by your lack of Esq., MP after his name than the erroneous comma.

great to see Marcus getting a lot of love from the Pompey fans. I know he's gone but we've still got an interest in him. I really think he'll be playing Championship football next season, with or without his Pompey team mates.

I like Marcus a lot and hopes he makes it at Pompey. But personally I still think it’s the best bit of business Nigel may ever have done for us. Bringing that sort of money in for the lad.

Long term - interacting with fans on social media will harm him IMO
Even those posts where fans are siding with him but slagging off his manager aren't helpful
He's giving the fans a platform he should avoid
He should make his posts private for his close friends if be on there at all IMO

I've only recently started whoring myself about on twitter for selfish reasons and it's a weird platform. Marcus had usually been quiet on there and I don't think he posts to interact with fans per se. It's dangerous ground, I didn't like the slagging off of Kenny jacket and Marcus will do well to step away from it. On the field though, he's had four very good games out of 5 which is brilliant as o thought of anything he may struggle early doors. I too think it's a great deal for us and never really expected to see that kind of money for him. I just think he's stepped up a lot of levels and don't think we've seen the last of the cash for him. Another dozen good games and he will be on the radar of championship teams. Stop tweeting, keep playing and it'll be kerchingg for us.

I agree Broomo but my worry for Marcus is when his form dips (it almost always does) and he is out of the team. Will he still get the friendly arm round his shoulder and words of encouragement or might he find himself a bit alone at a big club and feeling isolated? He was with us since childhood and it’s going to feel very different.
