Well, as parting gifts go, the goal on Tuesday was certainly something to remember him by.

Struggling to think of the fee involved. Hopefully it allows us to bring in one or two decent lads. I'm assuming not a record fee otherwise that would have been said, I think. So guessing somewhere between 500k and 1m... I hope! £700,00 being suggested by a Portsmouth supporter “in the know “.

Anyone else read some of the comments in the Facebook group? Haven't laughed that hard since Derby lost at Wembley.

The only thing that is disappointing in this for me is that it didn't happen a month ago. Not long to get someone in and into the squad for the opening game of the season.
We absolutely should be cashing in on players when we can. A sale like this is likely to increase out operating revenue for the season by 5 - 10%. No brainer for me.

Anyone else read some of the comments in the Facebook group? Haven't laughed that hard since Derby lost at Wembley. They see my name and won't accept my request to join. Probably for the best, for me and them to be fair. You could always cut and paste a selection just for our pleasure, taking out the expletives of course to make it forum friendly. It's a bit sick of me but I'm genuinely interested to see how they've handled it. The Harpers group has been briliant. nothing but common sense on there.

"Clough out what an idiot before we went down we had a team that was capable to get promoted we have lost so many key players and bought in no one we have lost Kyle Jamie and Marcus and brought in a Northampton player and a 19 year old centre back from a none league team in Scotland it isn’t good enough where the f*** is the money we have get clough out or we are fighting for relegation" Lots of plain old "Clough out" messages One sinking ship analogy "Where’s sorrel" And my personal favourite "Club is a sham balls" Although on the whole, a fair number of rational statements.

Like many others on here I am disappointed at this news especially as we all thought we were about to see the best of Marcus this season and he would be a real asset.
I guess in hindsight it was naive of us to think that we would play so well last season, especially towards the end, and that the big boys of this league wouldn't notice and not start coming after our players. Clearly clubs like Coventry and Portsmouth, despite both having been a shambles off the pitch in recent times, have the resources to just come along and buy players from the small clubs like us. That's just football reality.
Anyway, hopefully we have a few quid in the bank and Ben gives the bulk of it to NC to go and wheel and deal in the transfer market. Over to you, Nigel!

I doubt the money will be spent buying a player, more like helping to pay a wage or two on free or loan players. How many loan slots have we got ATM?

It's funny as after seeing his goal in mid week against Sheff U I did wonder if someone would take a gamble? Then thought NO! He's not that good and with it being a friendly! Slightly dissapointed as he has improved but more shocked that Portsmouth have bought him, especially for the fee that's being talked about. Probably to good an offer for the club, for a player who was out on loan at port Vale and did struggle to hold down a place there! Bit of a gamble by Pompey I reckon especially for a player who drifts out of games for long periods, we'll see.... Reckon Naylor's been messaging him 😂✔️ COYB

If that's true I'd say we've done ok. I hope he flourishes and goes for millions. A sell on clause in today's mad world were pace and directness are hugely sought after commodities could see us net a small fortune by our standards. I now want Pompey to "!&!& this tinpot league" with Marcus as their stand out performer (as long as we're tucked in behind them in 2nd of course.)

In hindsight I’m not that sure this is a good move for Marcus. He developed a bit of confidence as he became a bigger fish in a small pond. Not sure that the Portsmouth lake with lots of competition will bring the best from the lad. Also I think he will miss the encouragement and understanding of people who knew him well and shaped his career. I hope I’m wrong and Broomo is right but let’s see how many games Marcus gets in a workmanlike Pompey side. It’s very similar to the Jamie Allen situation but for me Jamie has a bit more determination about him. However good luck Marcus and thank you for your contribution to Burton Albion.

The really disappointing thing for me is that we all felt for the first time in 4 close seasons we were more than likely to enter the new season with a settled established squad long before the first game.
Yet again we lose players to bigger clubs. Two or three injuries already mean we’re down on numbers and NC will be left trying to piece together a side over the coming weeks. It can’t be good for squad morale. We're kind of up against the odds already.
I still don't know what this "other place" is but criticising Cloughie is ridiculous as we all know.
As for Marcus. Good luck to him; he certainly has impressed since coming back into the side.

Another player gone, that has brought the darkside out,and the key board warriors, sharpening their knives. our club is laughable==no ambition==we just get pushed around its a joke==no wonder the ground is only half full==we cant keep our players==what a stupid decision==all the money disappears==Clough out.we are a minnow in the sea They join me with being disappointed but i don't blame the staff or the club,It is the price we pay,and have to accept we are a minnow in a big sea. Someone quoted with a transfer budget of only 46 million the club would suffer to compete,The money we got for Harness must be good in the long run for the club. Why because the one thing we have better than most clubs are Chairman and CLough and the staff,Many posters on this forum put the transfer into context.Dealing with our Disappointment, 3 years with a 1 year option is a good deal for marcus, i just need Clough to tell me he is on board with it and player and club ate happy. Best Wishes Marcus good luck for the future

For some reason the loss of Marcus has really hit me. Yes I know we must be a selling club, I know Marcus has to think of his own position, and good luck to him. However, I have not yet picked up my season ticket, and suddenly all enthusiasm for doing so has evaporated overnight.

We were ready to go, looking in good shape and now we've lost one of our most exciting prospects. Finished article or not, Marcus had the ability to do something out of the ordinary. Who would have thought a year ago that we'd be so gutted to lose Marcus Harness eh? I've got a feeling (and it is just a feeling< I've no inside info) that we'll bring in a couple this week with one of those being an exciting and up and coming youngster. I hope at least one new face is here in time for the Derby game I'll say again, I'd take Jake Hesketh back in a heartbeat. I think he'd just started to settle with us and then went on to do very well at MK Dons, I don't know if they have plans to take him back this season but if not, get him back here. I'm still dreading the tweet from Josh Murray that Boycie in in talks with someone and now wouldn't be surprised if it were "just" a bigger league one and not his dream of a champ move. We need a little lift that's for sure. We'll get one, we always do.

I was looking forward to watching Marcus who was just beginning to show his potential; an ability to put an opponent off balance by dipping a shoulder just like Magoma used to do. But good luck to him.

There's a post last season where I said there's a potential 1m plus player here. Back then several laughed at that - which just shows how he's done well since then. At the time he was struggling a bit. Back then many wouldn't have blinked an eye if he left on a free transfer.
I've always based it on his pace which commands a premium.
I will be honest and say I've always thought him a very limited player despite the pace. He was a late developer. Being a keeper until he was about 15 - I think. He's not a great footballer IMO
He could go on and be worth more for sure. But he equally could be at his level as it is.
Against Man City he never had a kick (apart from blazing a relatively good chance over the bar at their ground). That was a chance to show he belonged at a higher level.
I would have been more disappointed had we lost Boyce and I was more disappointed when we lost Jackson Irvine.
I see Marcus more as a luxury player. He's gone we have to forget him.
700k plus a sell on clause would be a decent deal for us at this level.
That's the academy paying its way again for a few seasons.

I believe this is a good example of how we need to continue to roll as a future model to bring success and continue to grow as a club. Invest in the academy...nurture youth and sell for profit, repeat...Showing we can be a viable outlet for prem clubs to give their stock valuable gametime and experience, whilst spotting talent elsewhere, lower league clubs and Scotland. Seems to be working well for us.
Let's face it we can't rely on the fanbase like clubs like Portsmouth. To be honest I much prefer the way we do things.

Agree with all of that. As a longstanding supporter from the 60’s I still pinch myself when I see where we stand in the great scheme of things. Good luck to Marcus, hope he does well but not at our expense. It is frustrating but that is the way of the football world we operate in. A couple of good signings / loans and we should be in decent shape. Looking forward to the start of the season.
