Two ways of looking at this one: ROI under 21 keeper and good man utd prospect, or keeper from L2 relegation scrap who shipped 74 goals last season.... Whilst I hope it works out and it quite possibly will, I cant help but think this could easily go the other way. Pleased we have done the business in time for pre season. I don't think this gets us closer to the play offs though so can't get too excited by it. Going to correct some of those stats there Britty unfortunately. While Kieran was in goal he conceded 53 in 37 League games playing behind, arguably, one of the poorest defences in League 2. Also conceded eight against West Ham in the League Cup. Lets not forget that Brad conceded nine against Man City and we still thought he was alright to be fair. Lets not forget that he swept the board at Macclesfield's end of season awards. That is how highly they thought of him.

I was in danger of going to bed too happy, thinking for the first time in living history the entire forum was unified in it's pleasure at someone we've signed ;-) Plus, I've met Britty and he's a good lad ;-)

Brad had an above average season for us last year the chances of another above average signing are less. I hope he does well - just don't think it is anything to get overly excited about.

You are right. Things don’t always go as we would like them to and new signings don’t always work out. We could also just have a bad season and struggle more than we hoped. I think the risk of things going wrong is always higher at a club like Burton with such limited resources and small supporter base. That’s why we are so reliant upon Nigel and co to get it right. Thing is, they generally do (with a few exceptions). I’m not getting overly excited but I am feeling positive. We have a pre-season to gel as a squad, I still expect Boyce to be leaving though which will be disappointing.

I know where you are coming from Britty. There is no guarantee that Kieran will be as much of a ‘success’ as Brad was last season. Or that we will be as successful as a team as we were last season. On paper, having missed out on Brad, Kieran would appear to be the next best we could have hoped for in terms of potential and previous experience.
It’s just easy to look at how many goals a team conceded last season and blame it all on the keeper. Kieran appears to be a better keeper than last season’s defensive record suggests.

I seem to recall many in the other place and maybe a few on here not being too impressed with Brad in the early part of last season.
The clamour for Evtimov was loud indeed.
O'Hara is a young 'keeper, he'll make a few mistakes as well as some match winning performances.

Highlights here. Some cracking saves to be fair. youtu.be/KnUT0o6Dut4 Fact is in League 1 we could never afford to sign a keeper and pay the wages with this pedigree and potential So getting one on loan for the season and not just til January is great His experience in league two last season and the awards he won should take away any doubts ps - make the most of him whilst we have him. Next season no doubt he will want Championship football like Collins. Unless we get to the championship this is likely our one season with him in goal

Plus he joins us aged 23 compared to Collins age 21 when he joined. Those two years can make a big difference in terms of experience and confidence

Interesting comparison
Forest have just signed Man City keeper Muric on a season long loan
He's aged 20 and played in their League Cup Games last season (including against us in the semi final legs).
3 years younger and far less experience of games than O'Hara. Did he even have much to do playing for City in the League Cup? I imagine he's good with the ball at his feet though!
I also imagine Pep wouldn't let him go if he wasn't promised the season at Forest as a starter.
On paper which of us have got the best season long loan?
We would have as many if not more question marks about the 20 year old I think?
And he's signed for a Championship team
Be interesting to compare how they both do.
Another one we could never afford to buy of course

Didn't we have a young keeper on loan few years ago in L2. Good but not that great iirc. What was his name now?. Jordan something?.

Don't get too carried away - rah. We could struggle - blah. Excuse my french but screw that. Watching that I'm getting carried away. I'm getting excited and I'm getting my play off scarf knitted already. Maybe it was the music as much as the saves but I loved that. Loved it ;-)

Quite a few pushed back into dangerous areas, I'm not getting carried away. Yes I saw those as well Keepers seem to do that a lot in general nowadays And that includes Premier League keepers And like I say how he deals with crosses and commands his box for corners etc will be crucial at this level You can't tell from the video At the end of the day De Gea made some terrible mistakes end of last season and he's supposedly one of the best in the world Keepers make errors and cost goals. On the back of that poor end to the season De Gea is about to sign a new contract worth £350k per week And even he pushes a few back into dangerous areas! Put those errors he made last season into a video and you might turn him down for BAFC!

That was some compilation though to be sure. Is there one of all the goals he let in too? 😉

Trying to find out a bit more about him - he seems to be a good penalty stopper
He saved 3 in a penalty shootout v Walsall and another in normal time although they scored from the rebound (must have pushed it back out!)

I've noticed this seems to be happening a lot nowadays and been heard to often remark...."That was a great save but he just put it back into the danger area for the guy to tap it back into the goal....why didn't he simply deflect it out for a corner which would have been easier anyway than parrying it back....? Who's training these keepers these days?"

I know less about goalkeeping than I do about outfield play, and that is very little but I wonder if the main objective is to stop the ball from getting into the net and making sure that defenders are as ready to clear the push out as the opposition strikers are as ready to hit in the rebound. Defenders who read the game well will be ready for it, I assume.

But it does mean the odd one will be parried to a dangerous area but they aren't dropping stuff or having stuff slip though their hands and even more dangerous? Im just speculating
