You might be right but hes 23 in Feb and if he has aspirations of playing prem football he doesnt want to be playing in DIv1 does he? I could see him going on loan for one more year to a Champ side like we were last season? There isn't another Championship side,"like we were," Royston - that's the whole point. What i mean is he needs to step up now to the champ level if he is to progress. One year in div 2 with FGR then in div 1 with us he needs to be playing at the next level now and his wages will be in a different league to what we can offer.

I get that Royston, but that is Brad's dilemma - first choice and playing regularly at Burton or possibly bench warming in the Championship on more money. Lots of goalie's seem to like option 2. The sooner he makes a decision the better.

Brad has potential but has only appeared in the league for FGR and ourselves and is far from the finished product. He is out of contract at Chelsea and I doubt he is going to get much interest as an out and out first choice keeper elsewhere, certainly n the Championship. I’d say leave it to Nigel and we have a chance of landing the lad.

But, if their transfer embargo is confirmed, they may need a 4th or 5th 'keeper available to them with some experience. He may yet get an extension.

The other two 'keepers listed are only 19 and have never played. No idea what the 5 out on loan have been doing. It does beg the question though, would you want to be one of the 10 goalkeepers at Chelsea, possibly 5th or 6th in line, or be looking to set yourself up as 1st choice with a lower league club with the possibility of a decent transfer later on...

Chelsea have 40 players out on loan. This includes Jamal Blackman, played 30+ games in goal for Sheff Utd last season. Had a great game at Burton last year.
This season - sitting on the bench at Leeds as far as I can tell.

There is certainly no shortage of players out there. Makes sense to wait it out and pick up a bargain.

I’d like to see the goalkeeping situation solved sooner than later. It’s arguably gone on ever since John McLaughlin left. However I do feel we have good cover in Steve Bywater and if Brad Collins is proving problematic then there are plenty more out there. If he doesn't want to come here or we can't agree a deal so be it.
We’ve had some very good keepers wanting to play for us in recent times for very little….Tomlinson, McLaughlin, Krysiak, Legzdins……………Kevin Poole asked for a game!

I’d say leave it to Nigel and we have a chance of landing the lad. This is a pivotal summer for Brad. He indicated at the POTY awards that early season he had regular contact with Chelsea. Post-Christmas much less so. Read into that what you want regarding his chances of getting a contract extension. As has been said, there may be interest from the Championship but probably only as back-up. With no experience at that level I can’t think of many, if any, second tier clubs that would gamble on a new first choice keeper who has only had one season in League Two and one in League One. Brad has had almost two full seasons of first team football and arguably needs to continue that if he is to continue his progress. Another season in League One playing regularly for a side, hopefully challenging at the top end of the table, could ultimately give him better options in 12 months time. It’s up to Nigel to persuade him of that but it will come down to Brad’s ambition and where he sees himself going in his career. He seems a level headed lad. Hopefully puts his career before cash at this stage.

It’s a strange thing being a goalkeeper. Most clubs need 2 in the squad, but they want one to sit on the bench all season but still be good enough to cover in an emergency. In the top teams, the second goalkeeper is likely to be good enough to play in the first team but must wait it out. At Burton, NC has generally had someone on the bench who could cover a game (or part of a game) in an emergency but who he would rarely trust to take over as first choice. Sensible as ever, no point paying out excessive wages to someone who may not play.
Bywater wants to stay and I believe I am right in thinking that he only ever came here as cover. That’s a luxury having his experience to hand both in the match day squad and around the club. I’ve seen enough of Brad to convince me to make him first choice next season if he wants to be. And if we get him on a free then all the better.

That's good news . I did wonder what you were on about when you said Alfie Boe , but looking at the picture there is a canny resemblance .

Brilliant news. Love “The Beard” and his loyalty to the club where he started his football career. Such an asset anywhere in the back 4 and we are privileged to have such an excellent player at our level.
