Probably unsurprising given he’s not been seen since last season but Marcin is retiring from football Article on the official site

That must have been a tough decision to make at his age, I guess it's how he feels mentally that's important here.
Best wishes for the future Marvin.

Marvin is unfortunate in the way mental health issues have dogged him through his career. But he is fortunate in one respect, in that, seemingly unlike many footballers, he has more strings to his bow. Football for him (I am guessing) has always been something he has done rather than his whole life.
Meanwhile, no news of Billy Kee, who didn't report for pre-season at Accy for personal reasons. Worrying.
*update, an interview today with Coleman on the radio... they will simply give Billy all the time he needs.

Given that I suffer from depression, I stopped and I thought about a few key words in the piece. Marvin experienced 'racism, bullying, manipulation and verbal abuse' and it had a detrimental impact upon his mental health.
Being hurt by such things is not exclusive to people with mental health problems. We all have varying degrees of sensitivity and resilience. Some are thicker skinned than others. However, the demons that grab the person with mental health problems when they get low are truly horrific. Those demons don't stay with you for a day or two either. When they show up they can stay with you for months or years.
Marvin being subjected to matchday and dressing room unpleasantness must have been absolutely horrific. He must have been constantly walking a tightrope, fearing that something would take him down so low that the demons would be able to grab him and take him down further. I vaguely recall Bolton fans singing nasty songs about him for 90 minutes so I witnessed it too.
I dare say we have all been guilty of shouting a few choice words at an opposition player for a late challenge. Or we have berated the referee or the linesman for poor decisions. We probably assume that they are thick skinned and resilient. Yet they are human beings with emotions and some will have demons that they are dealing with like Marvin. We should refrain from shouting anything abusive. It's unnecessary. I stopped doing it years ago.
I read between the lines that Marvin has simply had enough of all of that negativity and nastiness in his life. Who can blame him.
Thank you for all that you did for the club Marvin. My favourite memories of you were seeing you out on the right in our first Championship season, cutting inside and blasting a few in the bottom corner.

It makes really sad reading. Someone who clearly recognises how fortunate he is/was and the ugly side of the game has forced him to give it all up. Whilst some on this forum may doubt his character I can only admire his strength to talk openly about his challenges and the issues he has faced during his career.

Very sad but very brave news. I sincerely hope Marvin finds that inner peace that he is looking for. All the best Marvin, maybe you could get in touch with Billy and help each other banish those Demons.

Sadly football, and it is football, does little to deal with the abuse that can rain down from the terraces or indeed their own social media outlets.
I include our own club where it should be under control.
I thought Marvin started brightly for us but I guess other issues take over. A shame.

If you have Sky, Marvin is on right now 10am ish. He's a pundit talking about the lastest match played (last night) in the Prem etc.. and I reckon all things Prem.
