I think Ben leaving is a shock to everyone ,royston again uses it has a stick to beat the manager, most of his posts are to attack the club. facts are distorted, and Ben Robinson now states false accounts,on income and expenditure.People correcting roystons statement, quite rightly must get fed up with it But unless you enjoy picking the positives from the negatives, please it would be better ignoring his posts, or a short reply. Ben Turners Departure while we concede goals with no incoming central defender does seem strange, and again we sign another midfielder when we seem to have so many. Clough knows we have a lot to do for a top half finish. I feel like most he has weakened our options. But already the focus is looking to the future, We have to be very street wise with our squad, and we are playing with a 3-000 fan base,so planning is key,to survive in league 1 ,with 3 more from the championship next season, and out of a top 7 chasing promotion 4 will still be in league 1 next season. So life being a Brewer is not easy Clough is in a league of his own with small budgets, we fans know very little -Turner=Sordell we were watching Boyce==Macfadzene also was relieved so many had signed new contracts. After so many years i trust Clough and look at what a pub team has achieved.I have seen miracles

Won't get into arguments about who we should be playing or letting go.
I look at it this way, if we can't get the fans through the gates to support and therefore put money into the club the management/chairman needs to make best of what we have and take steps to make sure we are still here to compete and survive for another season and so on.
Being realistic I never did think we will be vying to be top of the league or in the play-offs and certainly not after last Sat result, it's not on. Cutting our budget and getting in players (most likely fitter younger players) is seen as the way forward for me.
We've just got two players in last week and what's left can do a job for the rest of the season, even taking into account injuries we are still covered.
Many thanks Ben Turner, a great player for us and did us proud. We meet hopefully another great ex player for us tomorrow, the Moose one of my favourites, I was sorry to see him go but didn't bleat on about him going, it happens we have to get over it.

Turner is a great loss but all the best to him good service to our club
On the matter of the wage bill Clough said before the City second leg (on the BBC no less) that the wage bill combined for the 14 who played in the first leg was 25k pw. That is 1.3 so adding in those who didn’t play the wage bill is probably around the 1.5m mark

Was talking to one of my students today who was ranting about this. I pointed out a few things I thought made sense: That as it was by mutual consent, Ben must have requested this. It very likely wasn't something NC wanted. But NC has always let players go if that is what they wanted. It's not a new thing. As far as I know, at the end of the season he was free to go anyway. Big Ben left us... Afellay left Stoke.... Nesbitt left MK Dons... (thanks Google) not that unusual. Most of the time NC has done it to allow the player to further/extend their playing career. Forcing a player to stay, when they want/need to be elsewhere is not his way. I don't doubt he's hard on players, some will appreciate that and some won't. Conversely I want the players to be worked hard, to be fit and determined. It's always obvious when they've had a "dressing room dress down", they come out fighting. While he is in contract, any team that wanted him would have needed to pay us for him. I would not be surprised if his pay had been massively reduced this season. If a team needed to pay us too, that would reduce his future pay. Going now is likely a better option. He does not need to wait for the transfer window and he may attract a bigger pay deal. We cannot afford to pay for championship quality players on our current income (one off boosts help, but can't be used for future planning as they won't happen every year). FFP rules set a maximum of 75% of our turnover on player wages this year, dropping to 60% next year. Turn over can include money "donated" by owners - so rich clubs with rich owners can add to their income to increase the amount they can pay players in salary. www.financialfairplay.co.uk/financial-fair-play-explained.phpWe have reduced income from Sky and FA this year. We have a gate of 3500-4000 most weeks and an owner who is a very sensible business man. A lot of Prem and Championship teams could run themselves without ticket sales income, we cannot. www.footballwebpages.co.uk/burton-albion/attendancesGate receipts in the 2016-17 accounts (2016 £1,089,452 and 2017 £1,553,706 - the gate was only 17% of turn over - the rest was "commercial income" - so events held at the ground, Sky TV money, etc) We might not have much cash around, but we don't waste is on loan repayments, etc. We are not in financial difficulty, usually making a small profit, unlike some clubs to can't afford to pay the players they signed up on ridiculous contracts. Being realistic NC and BR do a good job of balancing limited turnover and getting players of quality on a budget. This year we need to be more careful, but hopefully that will mean once we have adjusted to our smaller gate income, Sky payments and money from the FA/EFL we can plan for next year. beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/00488096/filing-historyFor us, yes we lose a great player (always positive on the pitch and always polite and friendly every time I've met him) and I wish he had stayed to the end of the season. But I also know my favourite players will move on someday. Just like Mous (always friendly with fans and often topless), McGurk, Naylor (another who was always polite and friendly... and great tattoos), Beavon, Phil E, Jackson, Robbie W.

You're on Facebook. You know it's not a small number of people Then they cannot have read the explanation either. And to be fair some of those on FB are just embarrassing themselves. Should Rhys wish to expand on his comment, I'm sure it will be interesting.

Great post and sets out exactly the position we see ourselves in. The way I see things you are in one of two camps. One where you accept that we are a club that sets a budget that meets its income and does not carry any debt and lives within its means. The other is where you expect the club and owner to spend beyond its means regardless of what it means for the future of the club. I know which camp i'm in.

Just told the missus the news that Ben had left, she said it's the best news she's heard in ages. He gave 100% no doubt about that, good in the air. Always seems to me like he's running in quicksand though, poor distribution.

Thank god he missed the other 10 weve played this season without him because after all we won 2 of them......... get real

I prefer a more mobile defender who can keep hold of the ball.

It must be such an acrimonious parting that Turner collected his stuff and beggared off never to be seen again. Oh... No... Pesky reality...
