Since I created the EFL Cup semi-final thread before the draw I think maybe it's time to reboot the occasion with a new thread for the match-week build-up, the game itself and the post-match analysis.
(I realise that this might disappoint those who were hoping the original thread would challenge for the title of the CMTD longest thread... but I don't mind.... post on the original thread if you prefer.... and I'm sure Norah will step in to combine them should there be two threads running simultaneously on the same topic)
Anyone know how many tickets we've sold for the first 90 mins of our cup semi-final...?
I see there was a crowd of 52708 for the Rotherham FA Cup game today at the Ethiad.

It will be at least 50,000 on weds We are going there with no fear, why would we? No one expects us to beat them but...... We will score a goal, I can feel it, It maybe a free kick or corner or maybe Boyce out of nothing. And that will make it a night to remember COYB !!

I'm going to lower that and say at least 40,000 for the first leg They got 43k for their home semi last year (which was same time and also the first leg) against Bristol City Bristol had 7.5k fans there (When we first heard the draw I mistakenly ready Bristol only had 4k of fans there)

I'm wondering what we can actually do to keep this match up as competitive as possible?
I've just seen the Rotherham manager interview after yesterday's game where he said he told Pep after the game:
"Your team is a joy to watch"
I'm seriously hoping that we don't go behind too early and it just becomes an exhibition
But that has to be the likely result tbh

Just lumped £8 on at 70/1.
Ready for Burton to surprise us once again.
Maybe not, but it'll be fun whilst it's 0-0 (10 minutes maybe).

just got to hope we can keep it to a respectable scoreline so the 2nd leg has a bit of interest in it. anything less than a 3-0 defeat i reckon is a good result. obviously i'd be over the moon if we nicked it 1-0!

Man City away in a competitive match,on Sky tv--a cup semi final no less just unbelievable. Etihad Stadium over 55-000 all seated,They have the most expensive squad in Europe with 19 full internationals, and a e.s.t squad value of 775 million and at least 9 world class players. Since drawing the Brewers in the cup and progressing via the 7-0 demolition of Rotherham. they expect to spend 100-million in January to remain competitive. Burton Albion with our youth and old heads, could just freeze, walking out to this vast arena, and standing on the same pitch with legends in the game. We to have our own legend a certain Nigel Clough who with Ben Robinson ,will show the Brewers pride and show how far a little town club can come.. Do we defend in numbers,do we go toe to toe, How do we fill such a great void in worlds. Yes Clough knows the answer,What the hell are we doing here in this total mis- match ==We are here because we deserve to be, So our plan is for players and fans to enjoy every minute and relish the occasion and be proud to be a Brewer. Of course the establishment are against us just to cover the risk of a shock. They have made it over two legs

The two legged occasion has been bought in purely to stop fairytale finals happening. It's a shame really.

Hope they remember Nige pulled on the Sky Blue shirt for them and go easy on his team.
I hope we come away with something we can take into the second leg with some sort of hope of still being in the tie.

I don't think the two legged semi final has just been bought in as it has been this way since the competition started in the sixties. In fact I think when it first started the final was played over two legs which didn't stop the likes of Rotherham, Rochdale and Swindon getting there. Nothing to do with trying to stop fairytale finals.

Just wondering how people think we will line up on Wednesday(we know Nigel reads this forum to get a few ideas!) and how we best try to stop them if that's possible.
Personally I am in favour of playing three centre backs, Brayford, Buxton and Turner(assuming Kyles not fit) and then having Lucas and Reece as wing backs/out and out full backs. Stick with the usual three of Quinn, Fraser and Allen in the middle and then perhaps play Marcus in a free role behind Boyce(again assuming he is ready to start).
I enjoy our usual formation of 4-3-3 in league games as it has made us more attack minded this season but I just think that may leave us too open against the quality of City and I think we need to try and implement the yellow brick wall policy from our first year in the Championship to try and keep the goals against down.
Of course there may not be any formation that stops them but I'm sure NC will try and come up with something to give us a chance even if it is slim.
What do others think?

I know a Man City fan who doesn’t have a positive word to say about Nige.

I do hope it's our strongest XI at least.. I remember us vs Liverpool and we played a 2nd XI and they put out their full strength team. We had Derby the Friday after though so was understandable. Turners experience here I feel is vital. He's played in the prem so he knows what he's up against. Especially after this - www.google.com/amp/s/www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/ben-turner-cardiff-city-win-5787956.ampQuinn is also key as a shield for the defensive line. Whatever happens I know they'll work their socks off, unless we're 3 down after 10 mins then they may as well just chill.
