Lets be honest we all want to carry on as we are and all the comments from Nigel indicate no change.
However the fact is clubs do change as the season goes on, loans/contracts expire, players need to go out on loan, injuries and cover need to be looked at, there has to be a forward planning eye on next season, the transfer window looms along with developing current performances.
On the last point alone we all know we have scraped an awful lot of games 1-0 , we are not a goal scoring side (till Gillingham) and we've had a bit of luck along the way.
So what does Cloughie do in what can be seen as a no win situation.

I think from now til end of season he just needs to keep us doing things similar to now
Keep everyone focused etc one game at a time
In background he needs to be seriously scouting in case we somehow end up in Championship next season
Where he will need to find a way to survive spending as little as possible on players and wages
That situation though is one that you couldn't pick a more suitable manager to deal with
But can we get there?

I don't think he needs to change much at all, maybe some little tactical tweaks and possible dealings in the loan market if we don't retain any of the loan players. It will be very difficult planning for next season if we aren't sure what league we will be in, unless we run away with it !

Not a great deal, be in Doha for next Sat too if that's how they play without him.
Seriously though, not got to change much at all as he said himself. He will obviously want a few little tweaks here and there, time will tell.

Agree with last two posts. If it ain't broke.... And Nigel said he has no plans to make any real changes. The loans that expire in Jan are his immediate concerns as he has said. We havn't had Zeli at all really so although it would be great to extend him, if he is healthy enough for Nigel to have a look at what he has, but if his loan is not extended we havn't really lost anything. Remi has shown he has quality but is he going to want to stay if he is sitting on the bench? He may want to go elsewhere. And we could bring Deano back. Duffy is a concern. hopefully extend his loan for rest of the season then sign him on a free, his contract at Brum expires in June. But will Gaz allow that to happen or will he sell him on elsewhere in January? He's 30 so I wouldn't think we will pay a transfer fee, but another club might.

To be fair he'd be barmy to change anything. They're a fantastic and settled group of players. Suspensions and injuries might kick in and we have to be lucky/sensible in that respect. If any of the spine of the team (McLaughlin, Mousinho, Weir and Beavon) in particular picked up an injury that would keep them out for an extended period of time then I'd be concerned because they're such important players that they're hard to replace. I'm not dismissing any players that I've not mentioned but I think that we could "get by" in other areas but the spine is vital.
What does concern me is the fact that a lot of the chasing pack who see promotion as being more important will have the resources to go and pick up 3 or 4 quality players to strengthen and that's something we can't compete with. You'd imagine Coventry, Peterborough, Wigan, Millwall, Bradford and Sheffield United will all need to change a few things to keep up and they'll have the financial clout to do so. We wouldn't be able to that and there might come a point during the last quarter of the season where we find ourselves effectively playing cup ties against much stronger opposition every week. It might be a case of us having to change it but literally not being able to due to constraints. The business end of the season will be much, much tougher in this league.

"If it 'ain't broken, don't fix it."
Carry on with more of the same and don't get drawn into the downward spiral of trying to buy promotion, as some others will certainly try to do as Spence rightly says.
Wouldn't bother renewing Zeli's loan. When he's fit he's good but he just isn't fit often enough. We could spend his wages on someone else who is fortunate enough to remain injury free.
Desperately sorry for the lad as he is just as exciting as Nasser when he's playing.
Duffy is a must to keep at least until the end of the season for me, as he is still getting better with every game and I'm sure the same goes for all the potential contract renewals.
Nigel will obviously be wanting to leave it as late as possible with contracts, until we have a better indication of which division we may be playing in next season.

Re: Deano, he has played all 5 games since he went to Blackpool. They lost the first three, 2-0, 1-0, 2-0, but they have won the last two 1-0, 1-0 against Fleetwood and Wigan. Two clean sheets for Dean. I have no concerns with bringing him back but he is playing games at Pool so if Remi stays here leave Deano where is is.

What does Cloughie need to change?
His socks and pants from time to time, very little else at the moment, loans to sort in Jan and see how it goes, hopefully it will carry on as present.

Cloughie needs to keep the momentum going, I want and expect automatic promotion. A big ask maybe but this is our best ever chance! Don't ever settle for second best when we are in the position that we are in. I don't and can't accept anything less, come on we can do this!!

Still trying to persuade my family that Man Utd aren't their local team/are crap and they should support Burton. Not working... Yet.

We are on the crest of a wave at the moment. We have been riding this wave all season and although we have looked shaky at times, we are standing steady at the moment. Let's take it game by game and if we fall off, just get behind the lads to get back up again. Remember if the sardines follow the trawler.........

We've been riding it for 13 months. A Game by game strategy works for me and our support is the 12th man. We had a blip or 2 but have always bounced back straight away. The players did it at Gillingham and I'm sure Moose will keep them focused on the pitch this week as well.

I think he does need to make a change or two, you can't standstill. We have something like approaching 30 names listed in the program/on the books, one or two players JFH has bought in clearly need moving on or put out on loan. If we loose Moose, Weir, Beavon, the full backs have we got the cover that much bigger clubs have or will have come end of transfer window. The last thing you want to do is rock the boat but you have to keep moving forward, it's a fine balance and a gamble but ...................

That's true. But at the same time Jimmy did utilise the majority of the squad. With no injuries or suspensions he had his starting 11 but because of the injuries and suspensions players like O'Connor, Flanagan, JBW, Reilly, Butcher, Palmer, Thiele have all had starts. Phil, Moose and Jono are the only mainstays I think. Just hope we don't lose anyone in January.
