Reading today that Burnley have paid 9million for the former Brentford & Luton striker who apparently started his career at Hinckley Town. Now that we are in league one do we have anybody scouting in non league as since Dom Knowles we don't seem to have taken a risk on anyone from lower leagues.

Yeah, I think Deano and then Dom were our last two non-league signings...

We aren't the kind of club to be able to afford any serious kind of scouting network
Anyone watch the John Barnes documentary last night?
A Watford fan saw him playing non league and wrote in to the club to recommend him
They invited him in for a trial and took him off at half time to avoid anyone else seeing him and hid him til he signed for them
Sold him to Liverpool for 900k when that was a lot of money

Exactly, you don't necessarily need a serious scouting network. In the old days that could happen, fans writing to the club. Today it probably happens online for the most part. If the club hear of a player from someone, then send Whitlow to have a look. But I think these 'finds' are getting rarer as more and more kids are being attached to an academy or club at quite a young age. But there are exceptions, look at Charlie Austin, working as a bricklayer and playing non-league at Poole Town in 2009 and 5 years later he's playing in the Prem.

Yes, I'm sure there are undiscovered players in non-league football, who for some reason or other never get the opportunity their hidden talent justifies. However, the academy system has grown considerably in recent years, and this has become the main avenue into the leagues. We seem to have a very good one at Burton. The other big factor for our team, is that Jimmy is so well known and highly regarded, that he is I feel more likely to be told of a promising player who may be under the radar.

Yeah, virtually every player we signed this year were quoted as saying Jimmy was a major factor in their decision to come here.

Speaking of unfound players in the lower leagues....I wonder if either of these two currently at Hereford FC are worth a look? Not trying to steal their players but they could a little money if someone did take one. HEREFORD have signed strike duo John Mills and Pablo Heysham from Didcot Town. The pair racked up 70 goals between them last season at Step 4 with Southern League South and West outfit, Didcot. Mills was a target of Hereford United boss Jon Taylor last season as he recorded an individual goal tally of 57.

Yes and Hinckley went bust so cannot claim the 15% sell on fee.
