Won first match and 4000 plus crowd
Couldn't have hoped for a better start
And delighted for everyone at the club including those old timers on here who could never have dreamed of stuff like this happening to Burton
Get in
7 shots on target compared to 1 shot on target for Scunthorpe
Sounds like we were good value for the win
Ps I see the team that started had only one new player in the starting line up (plus the keeper enforced)
Do you think Mclaughlin comes back in or not?
I'm assuming Ismail is injured already? (hope it's nothing serious)

Nothing more than you deserved. Could've and perhaps should've been 3 or 4. We were poor and despite the money we've spent have picked up where we left off last season. Nonetheless less you played well and looked far more dangerous going forward, as is shown in the shot stats. Congratulations.

Nice to get the win, just warming up 1st half. I want to see the penalty incident again, swung the match obviously but we looked ok anyways till then. I didn't see much difference, yet to worry us. Scunthorpe fans great had some banter with after the match, bring on the Posh next home game.

I thought in the first half that the step up to league one was clear for all to see and we had a problem getting to grips with it. We came back into it in the second half and Beavon's well taken goal was that little bit of a killer instinct we were lacking before half time. Obviously the big turning point was the penalty and the red card but I didn't see it. Defence played well, Naylor and Weir were immense and I liked the look of JBW when he came on. Quite tricky and there's a lot of him as well. Thiele got a cameo role and I reckon he'll start on Tuesday night. In response to Observer's question about McLaughlin, there's no question for me that he comes back into the side next game. All the best on the rest of your season, scunny8.

Sorry. That reads like I'm a right miserable git! I didn't actually say how much I enjoyed today and the occasion. Thrilled to be part of a little bit of history and the last time I celebrated a goal like Beavon's was probably either Nasser's vs. Southend or Phil's at Cambridge.
Here's to more of that this season!

For what it is worth I broadly agree... Definitely a red card btw, looks even worse on the box.

I can't disagree with anything spence says in his post. We were just a bit shot shy in the first half, and man of the match could have gone to either Naylor or Weir for me.

My Facebook post.. This League 1 is going to be tough emotionally. I was an emotional wreck at 3pm, biting nails and almost using my scarf as a comfort blanket. Then we scored which seemed good at first, but then bad, because the thought occurred that if I got too excited and we lost it would have been worse than if we hadn't scored at all.. by 5pm elation flooded in but know i feel emotionally drained and am having to go to bed. It's all too much...
Some other random thoughts.. 3points gained, perhaps only another 45ish to go for safety! On the minus side according to the bbc league table we have dropped three places. I was rather impressed with the Scunthorpe fans, including the ones who recommended the Byrkley pub as a pre match venue when we go there. Also with the greatest respect to Scunthorpe, we really do need to take our chances against teams like them as the games on reflection at the end of the season might be regarded as the 'six pointers'.

Spot on - 250 miles of driving, Trent Bridge for the win and the emotions of our first game in League 1, I need a lie down!

As for the game, I thought it was a great game for all 100 minutes... We could have been up 2-0 after 3 minutes, but we deserved the win as we were the better side on the day. I thought Scunny were very good, as were we, a fairly equally competitive game, not too much ill-will etc. I haven't seen the highlights but I think Robbie's challenge that saw their player stretchered off was fair, and I thought their keepers sending off was deserved. Either Tom Naylor of Robbie Weir were my MOTM, And I thought Remi didn't do anything to discredit himself. I was surprised to see SCS get the start but I thought he was also very good. The quad looked great today, the way they gelled, played off each other, performed when pressured...well pleased! COYB! Edit: and we did end up in the top 6, and because of the alphabet...

With four going down you need more points than normal to stay up Last season 52 points got you fifth bottom 69 points was the 6th place for playoffs

Incidentally, I spoke with some Scunny fans before and after the match. The four I met were nice people who were full of genuine praise for Burton and were saying how much they enjoyed their visits here. They all thought we deserved our win too. No bitterness detected.

Really if Beavon plays a whole season as striker then you would expect he should get 15 goals
And if he took penalties as many strikers do then he would be our 20 goals a season striker (I'm not advocating he takes penalties just pointing out that most strikers who score 20 goals a season take penalties)
I think we should stick with him as our number one striker as will be hard to replace his workrate etc and in the event he gets injured then loan someone in to cover
