We are open today for a pre match beverage, we are in the midst of some improvements, but come on down anyway, give us your ideas - we want it to be welcoming to all Albion fans…

It is your village club :-)

To return this thread to it's rightful place towards the top of the board. This weekend is the start of our season and our (the social club's) first attempt at getting Burton fans in pre game. I hope to see many of you there. All are welcome to come in and see if it suits. There is ample free parking. Guest ale is Old Cottage - Pastiche 5.2% Pedi and Carling also available - all at £2.80 Thatchers £2.90 Grolsche Blonde at £2.60 and Guinness at a bit more (don't drink it so can't remember) Man U v Spurs on both screens!! Come on down and have a look at the changes we are making - if you have not been for a while I hope you are pleasantly surprised as we try to move things on. Cheers

I have some very fond memories connected with the Hanbury Arms. Not all of them suitable for sharing. I had my first ever pint in the Hanbury Arms in 1969,pint of Trumans 1 shilling & 10d. A couple of years later I was dating the Landlords daughter, fond memories, not all of them suitable for sharing.

A word from me in friendly rivalry Funky... As I've put on the Facebook page, if you've not been in the Derby Inn in a while, it's a cracking little pub again now that Wentwell Brewery have taken it on and got their excellent beers in. Mine hosts Lee and Rachael also serving large cobs match days, as well as a new Champions Bitter to commemorate the Albion's success, which will be on all season. But, for me, the biggest selling point of all... Manure v Spurs will not be on at all!

Ha ha, you may be right, I never liked the original Pastiche or 'Legsplaiter' was its alternative name.
This Pastiche is a lovely blend. I hope though for your sake you have a full day at the test with England getting 700 tomorrow/Saturday morning and bowling the other lot out for 63 or so in the afternoon :-)

Another good venue pre game (as my original post mentioned :-) ) My post shared into the Facebook page appears to have been deleted, you must get preferential treatment :-). Once things are up and running at the club I think I will be sharing my time between the Club, the Cottage, the Derby Inn and I hope the occasional brewery do!!!!!

Thanks to England's bowlers, you'll probably have time to join us at the Pirelli for kick-off. Only three wickets to fall, so suspect the athletically challenged lady will be in full voice at Trent Bridge by 1pm latest?

We thought it may be a big crowd today so showed up at the ground early for a pint. It wasn't 'that' crowded but we enjoyed the pre-match banter and were happy to support the Brewers bar! Not sure how things will proceed from here, arrive early, late, find another watering hole...? As long as we stay on the upwards path it doesn't really matter. COYB!

Thank you to all guests today and welcome to our new members. There are some great pre match pubs and I appreciate the latitude of Norah for keeping this thread alive. As it happens overall I think it is quite worthy to allow a discussion about the merits of pre match hostelries.
I love the village social club, speaking to earwig today, who is involved in Tutbury Institute was a pleasure. Pubs are fine but the village club (not for profit) are at the heartbeat of our communities.
Anyway - enough for now.
But by 'eck the Pedi and the Pastiche were in good nick today :-)

You do realise that if you put a nice welcome message on every away team forum pre- match etc you could attract away supporters as well who are always looking for a friendly pub to visit pre match?
Depends whether you want to go that route though?

Evening all, I hope we are all set for the game tomorrow?
It was great to see so many of you down at the club for the first home game. You are all welcome again tomorrow. Not sure what the guest ale is yet but I will update later. The Pedi is cock on though.
Next week we have a beer festival running from Friday through to Bank Holiday Monday. The fixtures have not been kind as we are away next weekend, but you are all more than welcome to pop in and check out the festival ales.

And the guest ale is...
Hobgoblin from Wychwood brewery, 4.5% - delectable :-)
Oh and by the way we now have a charity partner for the next six months, we will be raising money for Help For Heroes, any spare pennies are welcome in the jars on the bar and we will be having several fundraising events.
