They've got new owners and just released a load of players with Maghoma being one of them
Maybe his wage demands will be too high now but he would do a good job IMO

Also rumour is Derby have released Jamie Ward who certainly is a handful whenever I've seen him play
Age 28 now - again may have high wage demands
Also probably too similar to Beavon in style of play

Both very good players. But, Jamie Ward is too injury prone, and although Mags was special for us in many games, he was also very inconsistent. I can't see us going back for him myself.

Maghoma has played 54 games in 2 seasons for sheff wed.
I think he could be great at League 1 level for us.
You guys probably have seen more of him than me though tbh

I am not sure the way JFH has set the team up to play, the high tempo, high work rate style would suit Mags. I do not doubt his quality and in his 18 goal season he did work very hard. I just don't see the fit. I would though be happy to be proven wrong (again…)

I would have him back in a heartbeat, if he can accept our wage structure.

Added to your concerns is that he and his agent were always looking for the next opportunity. I anticipate that after a good start to the season he'd be looking to move out in the January window.

He's just failed to keep a job in championship. Best chance of getting back up there would be with a progressive league one team IMO
Unless another championship club comes in for him now

Surely Nasser is a flair player - very similar
2 of them type in a squad gives us a hell of a lot of attacking options
Harness backing them up as well
I realise you need discipline as well but we would be a very dangerous squad with those names above involved each weekend?

I'm sure Jimmy has his targets and maybe his budget already. One player I would like to see here on a season long loan is Kevin Stewart who has really impressed me, his game suits our style perfectly and he is a goal threat.

Fair point about El Khayati, but I think, so far, he has demonstrated an effort to do the hard yards. He also beats a player from standing which I don't think Jacques did as much. Jacques was a great passer and crosser and came inside to shoot and score. As it happens I think he may be out of our price range anyway.

It certainly shows the quality that's now being released / that will be released and perhaps more clubs recognising the Burton Albion way is the right way as FFP gathers pace.

But his last season with us he was our best player by a long ways. I think Jimmy would be able to make him an even better player and give him the drive to push on again.

I always think it's good to have 2 or 3 players in a team that scare the opposition
We know Nasser does
We know Maghoma used to
Akins does but I think he has his limitations
Harness will do as he gets his chances
Anyway when I saw Maghoma got released I threw his name in the mix. You never know.

I don't know if he's living in South Yorkshire but if he is - there's a few League One clubs in the vicinity who might snap him up - Doncaster, Scunthorpe, Barnsley, Chesterfield - he could even be on NCs radar and I'm sure wouldn't be unknown to Mr Evans at Rotherham......plenty other 'bigger-than-us' clubs in Yorkshire and Lancashire too...

Reading the Owls forum looks like Mags has been blowing hot and cold and most are not surprised at his release. We need to remember in the four seasons Mags was at the Albion it was only the last one when he showed real consistency for the entire season. Very talented player who could disappear for an entire game from time to time who had a fantastic final season for the brewers. Knowing my luck he will be signed up tomorrow, but I do think Albion have moved on and we could do better considering our style and intensity of play under JFH.

Well this topic on Mags has really started a very good discussion. To be honest it is really difficult to be sure about his value to us right now. On his day he was unplayable for us. The 4 - 0 defeat of Fleetwood away a few seasons ago all scored in the second half was a Mags stand out game for me (Mags 2 Zola 2), though not the only one. He could also be a bit lazy at times in not chasing balls down you felt he could get, and could disappear. I agree that it would be great to have another flair player to add to our squad, and maybe JFH could get that extra out of him regarding consistency. In fact I think he would be pleased to work under JFH. He may well be in demand by other clubs with more financial clout than us. I'm just pleased to have JFH making these difficult decisions, and will respect whoever he adds to our squad. I expect we may become a bit impatient for news over the next few weeks, (what's new)? Personally I can't wait to see what may unfold.

To be fair to Mags, at the Owls they changed managers and he was left out of the team for a long spell. Then he was brought back in, was injured for a bit and started performing for them. Now they have changed owners and he is released. Not really much he can do about that. A lot of their fans love him.
