DCFC have accepted a bid thought to be around £2mil for John Brayford from Premier new boys Cardiff City. Reading between the lines, it seems with only 1 year left on his current deal and negotiations stalled NC has cashed in rather than him leave for nowt at the end of next season. For those of us privaliged to see him in a Brewers shirt, the only surprise is it has taken a lot longer for him to be in the top flight than expected. It was obvious that was never going to be with Derby, but I can't believe other Prem clubs didn't take a punt earlier. DCFC have a sell-on clause as well. Good luck JB>

We will be facing Sam Winnall this season after he signed for Scunthorpe Utd. We will also come up against Kevin Amankwah who has signed for Northampton after being released by Exeter.

Be interesting to see which ex Brewer's striker comes out tops in Scottish Premiership this season - Big Calv at Aberdeen or feisty James Collins, who's just moved to Hibs from Swindon for £200 k ............

Now that is an interesting signing! Two clubs with no money, one has slightly less no money than the other!

Cleveland Taylor Joins Town .
Sunday 4th August 2013, 4:09 AM
Harrogate Town's website say that Cleveland Taylor has been signed...
Simon Weaver added his seventh signing to the squad before yesterday’s match with a Hull City XI when he unveiled former Scunthorpe United, Brentford and Burton Albion winger Cleveland Taylor.
Cleveland (29) started his career with Bolton Wanderers, before loan spells took him to Exeter, Scarborough and Scunthorpe United. It would be the latter club that he would join on his release from Bolton and over the length of four seasons he would make over 170 appearances and score fourteen goals.
Leaving Scunthorpe at the end of the 2007-2008 season he joined Carlisle United before moves took him to Brentford, Burton Albion (loan), Scottish side St. Johnstone, Burton Albion again and finally Grimsby Town on loan.
Cleveland has also represented Jamaica at Under 20′s level and also at Under 23′s.
Welcome to the CNG Stadium Cleveland.

From the Daily Record. Calvin Zola has done rather well..
Football Football News Aberdeen FC By Michael Gannon Towering striker Calvin Zola tipped to make huge impact at Aberdeen after storming debut against Kilmarnock
7 Aug 2013 08:24 ZOLA terrorised the Killie defence in a 60-minute debut and has been backed by Dons boss Derek McInnes to be a hit in the Premiership.
Zola gives the Dons fans a glimpse of his talent as he overpowers the Killie defence SNS Group/Craig Williamson DEREK McInnes is convinced Calvin Zola will run amok in the Scottish Premiership after carving up Kilmarnock on his Dons debut.
The former Burton targetman was thrown into the opening-day clash despite managing just 29 minutes of action in pre-season friendlies due to ankle and hamstring injuries.
Zola was in tears when he limped off in the bounce game against Shelbourne in Dublin last month but McInnes reckons he is exactly the type of striker Aberdeen have been crying out for.
The 28-year-old’s touch might have been rustier than a old garden gate but his power and presence in the box left Killie’s backline in tatters during the 2-1 win.
The towering hitman spun Allan Johnston’s defence in the build-up to Jonny Hayes’s opener and occupied so much attention from markers he allowed others to exploit the space.
McInnes insists it’s a warning to the rest of the division as the giant Zaire hitman will only get better – and he is already gunning for Motherwell this weekend.
He said: “There is a lot more to come from Calvin. He did very well on Saturday, especially when you consider he had hardly played in pre-season.
“He barely managed 20 minutes or so and was a good bit behind the rest of the lads.
“It was a gamble to play him but it was a calculated one and it paid off.
“We just felt he had attributes that could cause Kilmarnock problems.
“That turned out to be the case and Calvin was instrumental in the first goal. He was nowhere near up to speed and ran his race after 50 or 60 minutes.
“But he will get better as his fitness improves. It might be the case he is suitable for some opponents more than others but I’m sure he will be a handful.
“We have other strikers, such as Scott Vernon and Josh Magennis, who can bring us something different whenever the case may require it.
“But I’m sure Aberdeen fans will be pleased to see Calvin posing a threat in the circumstances. They would also have been impressed with his attitude because he was more than willing to jump right in despite the lack of match fitness.
“He would have been a bit stiff and sore on Sunday but he will work all week and be ready for Motherwell on Sunday.”
Zola will give the Dons a focal point but the onus will be on winger Hayes to provide the ammunition.
The former Inverness star was critical of his own displays last term but was unleashed at the weekend after McInnes gave him a free licence.
McInnes said: “Jonny’s performance was terrific. He was brave, always on the move and never stopped running.
“We are all pleased because we know how desperate Jonny is to do well.
“He is very hard on himself at times. So much was expected of him when he came from Inverness last year and it could be he was trying too hard to impress.
“But I can assure Jonny myself and Tony Docherty were delighted he was already on the books when we came to Pittodrie.
“We tried to sign him before because he is an outstanding player.”

Who remembers Jake Edwards the striker who joined us with John Mcgrath from Tamworth? We had high hopes for him, but it didn't work out for him here. Well in June he was appointed Vice-President of the US.L Pro League set up, tasked with expanding the game there to incorporate a third division.

Lets hope that Jake is more effective in his new role than he was as our centre forward.
