And we could not even fill our subs bench. Get real guys I think the gaffer needs to strengthen up front for sure . We don't have the strength in depth that some like to think we have. I'm sure GR will sort it out as soon as he can.

Well I've been to both away games this week and they have been very revealing as to our strength in depth. There is no need to panic but for certain we don't have enough quality options in midfield or attack which limits the options of how we approach each game when we have injuries to key personnel. On top of this our defence seem to have a bit of a crisis in confidence. Once Flitcroft upped the tempo 2nd half and they moved the ball quicker and ran at us from midfield we had no answers and as he said in his interview once they got one it was game over because we lost our shape and discipline. That's 2 seasons in a row he has out smarted us tactically 2nd half at Gigg lane. 4-5-1 hoping for a clean sheet and maybe nick a goal was our approach yesterday, I said to my mate Bury would up the tempo 2nd half and beat us comfortably and that is how it transpired albeit with 2 gifts and another preventable goal. We offered little threat in the attacking half. Well that's 10 games gone and we lie in 2nd place, we would settle for that come May but I feel we will have to strengthen our attacking options come the January transfer window and we need to recover that defensive resolve that has served us so well. Gary Rowett and Kevin Summerfield have a difficult month on their hands, thankfully we have a few home games to come.

I totally agree with everything terraceman has to say , I wasnt at Wimbledon but went yesterday , we need to start holding the ball up better up front , missing 3 key players didn't help the situation yesterday plus we need to start cutting out individual errors , early days but confident Gary will sort it out & we'll be back to winning ways very soon

I'm sure GR will sort it out as soon as he can. Totally agree with the "strength in depth" comment and I mistakenly thought we were stronger than we are. I do think we need to take into consideration that three particular absentees yesterday were McGurk, Akins and MacDonald, all of whom have been bang in form and instrumental in our rise to top spot. Beavon is a superb player but his partnership with Akins has been key this season and has the potential to outshine what Zola and Maghoma brought to the team. MacDonald is possibly in the best form of his Brewers career and I also think you only realise how good a player McGurk is and how much he brings to the team when he's missing. Obviously we also have McCrory, Bell and Jimmy missing who were all big parts of last season's squad. Gary does need to strengthen the squad a little more, I think he'd admit that and him and the coaching staff are probably constantly looking at players who would improve us throughout the season. I'm just glad that this is happening now with 37 games left as opposed to when there's only 7 left. Three out of the next four league games are at home so plenty of chance to get back in the groove.

Having watched the goals in both the previous away games I thought they were mistakes that we don't normally make and were totally out of character. We need to put those games behind us and carry on. We do find it hard against the physical sides like Wimbledon but the goals were gifts. Bury tried to say they ripped us apart but normally we'd cope with those situations with ease as our defence is normally reliable. We need to ignore the mind games and get back to what we do best. Play the football as we can and we'll be up there! brewers brewers!

Just got back and read the papers and watched the video highlights. And then I read this thread! A second game of poor poor defending and the problem is lack of depth in strikers and midfield? I don't think McLaughlin can be blamed for the 1st or 3rd goal and the 2nd was a bit of a fluke but well taken. And they could have had 2 more after the 3rd. Our defensive line was all over the place. ++++++++++ Quote from todays paper: "But in less than 20 minutes after the break, they were shot to pieces with some poor collective defending." Quote from Rowett: ""But a little bit like Tuesday night, they were very poor goals to concede at any level and it just made the game get away from us at that point." "I didn't think we defended well enough all afternoon, particularly in the second-half when it was too easy." Rowett believes that defensively the side has moved away from their excellent hard-work over the past 18 months. +++++++ Ok, so.....Wimbledon and Bury are strong and good sides, we are now playing some of the better teams in L2, we will never get points from every game, we are still in 2nd place which is fantastic and who doesn't love that! But I do think that the real problem is not being talked about for some reason . The current fit squad: Strikers - Beavon. McGurk, Knowles, Blyth, and Akins & Macca who are covering for a lack of wingers (Jimmy), and Austin Midfield - Mousinho, Weir, (Akins and Macca), Palmer, Harness, McFadzean, Bell, Doyle Defenders - Edwards(29yo), Sharps(34yo), Sheriff(32yo), Taft(21yo), Slade(19yo), Our defenders are either experienced and older (and playing every game) or inexperienced and very young, except for Edwards. We don't have cover for Phil, and Taft is not a left back, he is hopefully one for the future at CB, but he has been filling in well at LB. The positions where we lack depth and need to fill are defenders... Gaz would do well to shore up the backline. IMHO

The other point you could make is we are renowned I would say for setting up well to defend as a team
I think we may have forgotten the basics and got carried away be being top of the league and beating wigan and qpr
I think the team may have started to think they can just outplay teams rather than get the clean sheet first and when we score it's a bonus

I do not need to watch any video highlights or read any reports. Saw it with my own eyes. Injured players means less options and less quality. GR can only do the best he can with the players at his disposal. Poor communication and misunderstandings in defence is causing us to concede soft goals. I expect a few changes on Wednesday and maybe we can put a few basics back in place for 90 minutes.

If you read the papers, view video highlights, read this thread, and not watch the game live! You can pass comment on what went wrong? Cannot wait for the next report live from a laptop! Unbelievable really lol!

In early October when it was obvious that wasn't working anymore Gaz reverted to our setup to defend at all costs approach. He may have to do that now as well with a couple of knocks on the attacking players (Akins, Gurks, Macca) along with a struggling defensive line in the last 2 games and some big games coming up. Quote from the article Norah posted: ""With Burton parking the bus and dropping so deep, you're going to have a wrestle, it's going to be a game of chess," Flitcroft added."
