BREAKING NEWS Long-standing keeper quits Valley Parade after City opt for Jordan Pickford

Bradford Telegraph and Argus: Jon McLaughlin has left City and could be on his way to Burton Albion Jon McLaughlin has left City and could be on his way to Burton Albion JON McLaughlin has officially left City following the arrival of Jordan Pickford on loan.
The 26-year-old stopper is set to sign for a League Two club – thought to be Burton.
The departure of the long-serving keeper ends a six-year link with Valley Parade after he was signed by Stuart McCall in May 2008. He has previously been training with them while playing for both Harrogate clubs.
McLaughlin had to bide his time to become first choice but went on to make 145 appearances.
He shared goalkeeping duties with Matt Duke during the promotion season but returned to the side for the late charge which saw them into the play-offs. He kept a clean sheet in the 3-0 Wembley win over Northampton in the final.
McLaughlin played every game last season in League One and kept 14 clean sheets – the seventh best record in the division.
He turned down City’s initial contract offer but had continued to train with them and played in all three of the pre-season games so far.
Phil Parkinson said: "Jon has been a great servant to the club and we would have ideally liked to see him stay.
"But financial constraints mean it hasn't been possible to strike a deal that is right for both parties."

This leaves me marginally excited Norah, 6ft 2inches, plenty of experience. I am hopeful.

Sounds promising Norah if it's true! He's 26 and played 43 games last season, 13 clean sheets, if you can believe what you read online....good competition for Deano. And he would replace David Gray on guitar...

Should be good for orchestrating the defence...

According to Soccerbase he was an ever present in the League 1 side last year (46 appearances) plus two cup games so has plenty of experience at League One level. Almost fits Gary's profile from the other week to a tee you might say.
Hope this is true as he is a decent keeper, or should be, at this level.

He had a very consistent 2nd half of the season during Bradford's promotion push and again last season in league 1, In my view he would be a tremendous signing for free, Will be very pleasantly surprised if this come off as he has really impressed me in the past.

Sounds good
Solid league one season behind him
Bradford can't afford a keeper like that on the bench if that's their plan for him
In same way if burton sign him his wages must mean he is coming in as first choice
So you have to think it strengthens the team in a key area
Hopefully the deal gets done

This all sounds good. I have to say though Deano has been superb so far in pre-season.

This all sounds good. I have to say though Deano has been superb so far in pre-season. To be fair Deano has been superb whenever called upon (save for a mistake at wembley). And from the reports it sounds like he was motm last night again. Have not heard anything further on Jom M? but York, Oxford and Northampton have beem very active this preseason so they may be sniffing around... It will be good if he signs with us though..

Nothing on the official site yet but the BM have reworked the Yorkshire Post story....http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-28390309
Pinching myself a bit ......that little old Burton Albion can afford to offer a better deal to a first choice (last season) League One goal-keeper than a well-supported, former Premiership, big city club, like Bradford.......ouch!!

I agree that deano has been a solid keeper as well.
But that mistake at Wembley was shockingly bad. Cost the club promotion you can argue.
He played well in the semi finals though but when the chips were down he let himself and the team down with that one error.
Great competition for places now but as I said above I think the new keeper is coming to play first team. Rowett must think he is an improvement on what we have.
I don't want to jinx the club but I think this squad is really shaping up.

Well done Gary Rowett ! A major accomplishment in strengthening the team and squad. Deano has done superb and I really like him between the sticks but is perhaps not quite the finished article yet. McLaughlin has the edge in experience and as regards the level he has played at but he will have to perform well if he is to become the no 1 keeper which is what I expect him to do. Its strange how Jordan Pickford's situation last season left us in the lurch so to speak and now this season has worked hugely in our favour ! I suspect Christian Ribiero may be our next signing and we will then have a very solid squad with cover in all positions.

It was no doubt a done deal yesterday if he was quoted in this mornings paper saying "But I am now looking forward to life at Burton and seeing how far we can kick on." Guess we just had to wait for the official announcement.. Welcome aboard Jon!!

Guess we just had to wait for the official announcement.. Welcome aboard Jon!! Depends whether you mean the deal was done or whether he had signed. Some people are keen on the distinction...
